Sorry about the title, but from what I have heard that is what is called. There have been rare but heard cases in which while in the womb, one twin aborbs the other twin. Many people have refered to the aborbed twin as the parasitic twin and this is where is my question.

Would that aborbed twin ever have had a soul? What is the Church’s teaching on this?

Thank you for reading,

My thought is the action results in the twin’s death, but I know of no teaching on the subject.

I have heard that in most cases, the other twin dies as well. But for example, I was watching on tv, an exact case in which the other twin had been born with his aborbed twin. He grew to the age of six and the doctors were able to remove the extra body parts that would have been his brothers. But still did that other twin have a soul?

If any one can answer my question, I would be very greateful.

I don’t know of any teaching on this, but my immediate thought it that yes - the other twin would have a soul, since it was a separate person from the other twin, even though at some point in the womb the two were joined together.

Applying Catholic teaching on life principles, and life beginning at conception, I would say, of course the “parasitic” twin has a soul.

And in the eschaton, will be in heaven.

I should clarify, I do think they have a soul in the first place (using the same reasoning as Graceandglory) I just think that the soul would have departed by the time of the ‘absorbtion’ has occured completely.

Thank you everyone for answering my question. It really helped.

Thank you and God bless,
