I’ve been told by many Protestants (Lutherans in specific) that they do not believe in the validity of Saints, why then would they name a church after one? (ie: St Andrews Lutheran Church)

Dear United,

Some main-line Protestant denominations acknowledge as saints, the apostles and other holy ones of antiquity who were commonly acknowledged as such by the majority of Christians at the time. These saints were never canonized by the Church because they really didn’t need to be. What such Protestant churches do not accept, is the process of canonization. To recognize this would be to recognize the Catholic Church’s authority in such matters.
