Do some women wear the veil to feel superior or more holy compared to others?

I’ve seen women wearing veils at mass. I would not identify them with the Pharisees of Jesus’ time. Outward devotion I guess can be taken the wrong way.

So what exactly would you have this family, who are involved and active in your parish and in the music of it, do when they feel they ought to wear veils out of respect for Our Lord in the tabernacle? Do you want them to be kicked out of the singing? Do you want them to move to the back of the church? Are you aware that, when one has children, being up in the front where they can see is very important?

You use the word “sideshow” to describe a family who are active in your parish and wish to show humility before the tabernacle? Because they are the only ones who feel obliged to show extra humility before Our Lord, you impute motives of pride to them? That seems unkind and uncharitable to me. Am I wrong? Do you know more about these people’s motives than you have mentioned in your post, where you admit, albeit grudgingly, that they might NOT be proud about it?

All i will say is that they are rather proud people outside of church. That being said, it is okay that they do it, and to be sure it is good they do. It just seems as if it is kind of to be different, and not in a “be like us” different. It just seems a bit proud. I don’t know their hearts though. I just see their actions in and out of church.

Well since it is not really something you can’t do either, why not join them so that they cannot think of themselves as superior?

Well, I am a man, so if I veiled it would be strange to say the least But yes, I think other women should, but out of piety. I’ll admit it can be a good practice when done to glorify God.
