i.e. if someone wanted to start attending and receiving communion at an SSPX church, would they have to go through catechesis and be re-confirmed or somehow received into SSPX, or would being a Catholic be enough? I guess SSPX still believe themselves to be Catholic, so any confirmed Catholic would do.

Does the Catholic Church consider SSPX sacraments to be valid? e.g. if someone was confirmed in SSPX, they wouldn’t have to be confirmed again, if some one was married in SSPX, that would be a valid marriage? Would a returning Catholic who had received any sacraments in SSPX need to go to confession and repent of having taken the sacraments when they were offered illicitly? Is it a mortal sin to receive illicit sacraments from SSPX?

That’s if Pope Benedict XVI lifts the decrees of excommunication against the four bishops of the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX)?

What I’m trying to find out is whether the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) is the same organization as (SSPX)

This topic is a can of worms, but we should at least know who is who.

The SSPX sees themselves as simply part of the Catholic Church so there would be no formal requirements they would place on you, just show up.

That being said, they often re-confirm people or do so conditionally because many of their priests believe the Roman Church’s confirmations to be invalid.

The FSSP is what the SSPX would have been had they not set out on their own. The FSSP was established by John Paul II as a licit alternative to the rogue SSPX.

The Priestly Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX) (1970)

(not in full accord with the Roman Catholic Church at this time, both sides are working on it.)

Honestly, I didn’t copy your handle. I used to be the Holy Roller, but that handle brought out the worse in some guys around here. What I did was toned that handle down a little, and ended up with holy_roamer.

Anyway, thanks for the URL’s. I need to do some reading to catch up with my new adventure into the Latin Mass.

I wouldn’t give it a second thought. I thought it was funny.
There is plenty of room here for you, me, and many more.
Any way I hardly come over here – always get lost…

St. Margaret Mary Parish ( stmargmaryoak.org/ ) is a nice Church. It is a good Church with strong values. I am very thankful that Jesus led me there. I do not like the liberal ways, the Protestant ways that some of the Roman Catholic Churches have gone. I am at home at St. Margaret Mary. So many Roman Catholic Churches have ended up like this (Weary With Holding In / vultus.stblogs.org/2007/08/weary_with_holding_in.html ). I do not care for it.

Glad to meet you. I kind of knew that there would be parishners from Saint Margaret Mary here in this section of Catholic Answers. It’s the best place on the Web for Traditionalists to hang out.

What I’m trying to find out is whether you guys lie prostrate for an hour up at the shrine during your devotions tomorrow night at 7:00 PM, or maybe on Friday during Sacred Heart Devotions? Are you at church during evening at the 6:00 PM Low Mass?

Here is quote from Section V of a paper from CIN about her 3rd vision:
In the same year 1674, within the octave of Corpus Christi, before the Blessed Sacrament exposed, she received the third message. Our Lord appeared with five suns, His five wounds; and the most brilliant of the five was in His side, the living source of all love. He spoke as in times past of the ingratitude of men and called upon Margaret Mary to make up for all that was wanting. He gave her the means for so great an act of love by a flame so agonizing that she thought she would be “consumed” in it. She cried out, “Have pity on my weakness.” “I shall be your strength,” Our Lord replied.

And He told her what He required of her; first, to receive Him in the Blessed Sacrament; second, always to do so without fail on the first Friday of the month; third, every week on the night of Thursday or Friday, to lie prostrate for an hour, her face to the earth, to share the “mortal sadness” which He had chosen for His own in the Garden of Olives. These three commands she was to fulfil within the limits of the obedience owed to her superiors.

If healings and miracles start happening, the parking lot is not big enough. 🙂 The Bishop will be out in Pleasanton on the 15th at a Charismatic Healing Mass, so the Spirit of Healing is moving through the Diocese. I am in good health at present, so I’ll be a spectator.

if you want to know where the SSPX stands with Rome, then read ecclesia dei by john paul II. it underlines clearly the status of the society and what the laity should not do. the SSPX are Catholic yes, but they are not in communion with Rome. you cannot become a member of the SSPX. only the bishops and the priests are considered members. the laity is the laity. they are not members. one must know that the canonical status of the laity of the SSPX has not been determined.

Here is a link to Cardinal Ratzinger’s formal communication on SSPX:

Also, the esteemed Bishop Bruskewitz has a few answers on his diocesan website as well as a good article on ewtn.com:

Hope this helps!
