Hi everyone. I am in a debate with someone else on another forum about the Harry Potter books/movies. I said that they promote witchcraft. I honestly believe they do. But how do they promote witchcraft?
Oh its ok. But using your logic, you could find good in the Satanic Bible. Would you say that you could find good in the Satanic Bible? They only do if you want them to.
Just like with any book. If you want to find evil within them, you will. If you want to find good in them, you will. If you just want to find enjoyment from them, thats what you will find.
Besides using witchcraft in the books, I can’t think of how they promote the use of it in real life.
Good luck in your debate, sorry I’m not more help.
I haven’t tried. But I’m sure I could find some passage and spin some good out of it.Oh its ok. But using your logic, you could find good in the Satanic Bible. Would you say that you could find good in the Satanic Bible?![]()
Well, they don’t promote witchcraft. I, along with my 3 boys, have read, repeatedly, all 7 books. We have watched the movies several times. None of us have ever attempted to do a spell. None of us have conjured a patronus. None of us have made bugs grow larger or caused another to turn to spit slugs, etc. It just has never happened. You see, we understand it is a FICTIONAL book. We all understand the difference between a fun make-believe book and real life. They are all well grounded, well catechised Catholic kids. They love HP. They love reading.Hi everyone. I used the book to explain to my children that diviniation and spells were wrong in the real world.Hi everyone. I believe the books promote the religion of “witchcraft.” It promotes it as being benign and harmless.I used the book to explain to my children that divination and spells were wrong in the real world.
Witchcraft itself is a religion and the series doesn’t promote religion of any kind, although the characters do celebrate religious holidays.
Well since I read them I am holding weekl black masses in my basement and afterwards we try spells on each other. Havent beem sucessfull yet-I suspect its because the cat hair core in my wand is not as effective as a Phoenix feather.Hi everyone. They don’t. If you think they do, you should have a reason. If you are looking for a reason, that indicates that you hold your opinion simply out of unconsidered prejudice. Otherwise, why ask others to give you a reason for your own opinion? That’s pretty weird.Hi everyone. I am in a debate with someone else on another forum about the Harry Potter books/movies. Read them, listened to them on tape and watched them. Adults know the difference between fantasy and reality I hope. But children do not always discern between the two. They do not promote witchcraft or any bad things. I am getting tired of people–usually people who have not read the books–saying this.
“The last ememy to be conquered is death.”
That quote appears on Harry’s parent’s grave. And guess who wrote it first? St. Paul.
In Christ,
Rand
Ohno-not the Harry Potter condemned by Pope myth again!Read them, listened to them on tape and watched them. Adults know the difference between fantasy and reality I hope. But children do not always discern between the two.
So I will agree with PAPA Benedict and say they are not profitable for children.
I understand where you are coming from. I used to feel the same way. The more I have looked into it, the more I have come to believe that Harry Potter does not promote witchcraft. Let me explain.Hi everyone. I am in a debate with someone else on another forum about the Harry Potter books/movies. I said that they promote witchcraft. I honestly believe they do. There’s only one reason the Harry Potter books are in the least bit controversial. Just one.
Wicca.
If these books came out 30 years ago, there would not have been any controversy whatsoever. The rise of Wicca has muddied the waters. That’s it. If we didn’t have this ridiculous little “religion” bustling around, forming “covens” in dorm rooms and getting army chaplains, I doubt one parent in a million would even think to waste even a minute being concerned about these books.
I could guess by the font that you use that you were an evil, evil man.Well since I read them I am holding weekl black masses in my basement and afterwards we try spells on each other.
