Do the Orthodox believe in purgatory?

Just a quick question. I know the Catholic and Orthodox churches are very similar up to a point in beliefs and catechism, but I can’t remember ever reading or hearing anything about the Orthodox views of purgatory. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Orthodox Christians while always maintaining a Tradition of Praying for the those who have fallen asleep have never believed in Purgatorial Fire and were shocked to find out in the Council of Lyons and the Council of Ferrara Florence that the Catholic had developed a belief in such a thing. St. Mark of Ephesus “Refutation of the Latin Chapters which they proposed concerning the purgatorial fire” & also “Ten considerations showing there is no purifying fire”

Because the Orthodox Church never believed in Purgatorial Fire, it also never believed in Indulgences and never got caught up in the pratice of Simony as the Catholic Church did, which eventual led Martin Luther to create the 1st Protestant Church.

Our Churches have much in common, but there are some definite differences in some doctrines. In August of 1895, the Orthodox Church replied to the Encyclical of Pope Leo XIII which also refutes Purgatory, Indulgences and other areas of difference. The reponse was published in the Patriarchal periodical “Truth”. The defences are made based on Sacred Scripture, the Holy Fathers and the 7 Ecumenical Councils.
 
In addition, don’t believe Jimmy Akin’s article about Orthodoxy and how Orthodox play “word games” and actually believe in Purgatory. What he presents as proof of this - Aerial Toll Houses - is not even canon in the Orthodox Church, and there are many versions of it. The version he chooses to use specifically (which is taken from one mystic’s personal vision) is close to Purgatory, but again he is only presenting part of the story.

And moreover why would we want to play word games to deny something we actually believe? 🤷
