Do these rosaries count?

In the Bible it tells us “where two or more are gathered, there I Am also”. Though we know Jesus is always with us, there is something special about praying with another person.

During our quarantine we can’t really meet with others. If I were to pray the rosary along with a YouTube video, would the “two or more” principal still apply?

I don’t think so. However, take my advice with a pinch of salt, as I stand to be corrected.

The attitude toward a rosary should be perseverance in prayer. I think you might have to wait until it is safe to meet in groups again.

Some indulgences allow one to furfill the obligation of confession and communion reception, at the next nearest possible time.

You can also earn a partial indulgence by reading sacred scripture piously for half an hour, again with perseverance, not to meet a landmark.

PS: I like the Rosary, however I feel more called to know dear Jesus in reading sacred scripture.

Yes! Jesus always hears our prayers, and he understands the situation we are currently in. There is absolutely no thing called “invalid rosaries”. They are all valid! Jesus is always with us no matter what situation. The Internet is truly a blessing because in this time of the pandemic we can
be spiritually “together” in prayer. And speaking about praying using the Internet, why not join us and pray along with us in the Perpetual Rosary threads we have here at CAF? It is truly a blessing to pray for each using the Internet.

God Bless You!

First of all, all rosaries “count”. They don’t somehow have less efficacy if you’re praying alone in your house vs in a group of 10,000 at Fatima.

Second of all, yes, gathering online is gathering. Especially when it’s impossible for you to physically gather with people.

If the person wants to get a plenary indulgence for praying the Rosary alone in his home, all he needs to do is pray for the Pope’s specified intentions regarding the Coronavirus. He could also get a plenary for saying the Divine Mercy for the same intentions, alone in his home. There is no need to “wait” for anything, the Vatican decreed these plenaries way back in March, probably because the Pope could see that everybody in Italy and everywhere else was going to be stuck in their houses for extended times.

As I said, I also believe joining with a live group on Zoom or by phone or similar live interactive platform is a “group” for indulgence purposes because the Manual of Indulgences gives indulgences for joining our prayers with certain live broadcasts and receiving certain live broadcast blessings. But the Vatican decree regarding Coronavirus intentions makes that a moot point. It is also fine to pray for the coronavirus intentions and also add other intentions of your own, it doesn’t affect the plenary.

Finally, I note that the plenary indulgence is a bonus given by the Church to encourage people to pray, do works of mercy etc. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with either the efficacy of prayer or whether Jesus is present because two or more “gather”. Sincere prayer is ALWAYS efficacious regardless of whether you meet the criteria for any indulgence at all.

Don’t forget!!! You are never alone!!! God gives each of us a guardian angel. Ask your guardian angel to pray the rosary with you, now you have “ two or more gathered” 😉
