Do we have an afterlife,or is us going to heaven with god OUR afterlife?..im confused on it!
When we are in heaven, are we conscious of this?..anybody help me with this?

May I recommend a wonderful book that totally put everything in perspective for me, and literally made life make sense. “The Amazing Secret of the Souls in Purgatory” by Sister Emmanuel. It talks about the afterlife, purgatory and heaven, and explains Mary’s role in all of it. A very good book.

When we die our souls are immediately judged in what is called the Particular Judgement. At that time we know where we will be spending eternity --either heaven or hell. If our eternity is to be in hell, our soul goes immediately there. If heaven, our soul may go straight there or, if in need of “cleansing” first, spend an undetermined amount of time in Purgatory, after which it would go to heaven (everyone in Purgatory is already saved. It is not a “second chance” or extra punishment for sins already forgiven).

At the end of time at Christ’s Second Coming, there will be a final or General Judgment. All the souls that ever live will be reunited with their bodies and stand before Christ to be judged (Matt 25:31-46; Rev 20:11-15). Then all will go to their final destination for eternity, either heaven or hell.

Hi Godsent,

When we are in heaven, are we conscious of this?

When our soul lives apart from the body it is supremely conscious, not being hampered by any bodily defects. Through our baptism, we have been made adopted childen of God, which means that we are able to see God as He is. This is supreme happiness.

Has it ever happened that you were so engrossed in a book, that a couple of hours went by and you did not notice it?. Well, God is like an infinitely interesting book. You will spend eternity reading that book and it will seem like a short moment.

When we resurrect, our soul will rejoin our glorified body, without losing any of the priviliges it had already enjoyed being separated from the body. This body will be a glorified body, similar to that of Jesus after the resurrection, and we will live in a “new heaven” and a “new earth”, one free from sorrow and pain, filled with peace and joy.
