1331 - Holy Communion, because by this sacrament we unite ourselves to Christ, who makes us sharers in his Body and Blood to from a single body.

When we receive the Eucharist we become one with Christ. Do we also become one with others who also receive the Eucharist at the same time at Mass?

We are one with each other through our Baptism. In Baptism we are incorporated into Christ. In the practice of our Catholic Faith we are united with one another in our beliefs. In receiving the Eucharist we express this unity that already exists among one another and and participate in a “Communion” with Christ Himself. This is why the Cathlic Church only allows as the early Church did those who are members to receive Holy Communion. It is an expression of a unity that already exists, it does not create that union.

So when we receive the Eucharist we become one with Christ but we are already one with others?

I might quibble just a bit with your reply, Bro. Rich. While we are already united as members of the one mystical body of Christ through our Baptism, I think that there is a sense in which receiving the Eucharist also unites us.

The Eucharist does not multiply Jesus. While the accidents–or hosts–may indeed be many, Jesus has but one body. The body of Christ that I receive is the same body of Christ that you receive; and in that sense we are drawn together, united by consuming the one body. Just a thought.
