These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

We know the 12’s names. And Mary Magdalene, who the Orthodox at least call the “Apostle to the Apostles”.

Do you mean like the extra 70 Jesus sent? Or people who were missionaries later (Apostle technically means “one who is sent” and I imagine it applied to these missionaries at one point).

No. But there were female disciples .

Is this about Mary Magdalene

Matther 10:2

I’d say she was. For the title I mentioned earlier. She first was “sent” to tell the other Apostles about Christ risen. And there are stories of her preaching later. The “easter egg” tradition we actually get comes from her (not bunnies!), when she preached to the Roman emperor.

There are Apostles (IE Paul) that are not members of the Twelve. I would say Mary Mag would fall into that category
(EDIT) See post 12. Not completely correct.

No, she wouldn’t. She is called “apostle to the Apostles” and carries the Eastern title of “Equal to the Apostles” but she is not an apostle in the Apostolic and sacramental sense of the word. The only ones considered Apostles are the Twelve, plus Sts. Paul and Barnabas.

Ok in the Gospel of Matthew, who himself was an Apostle, the 12 are named.

Matthew 10
10:1 He summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits with power to drive them out and to cure all kinds of disease and all kinds of illness.
10:2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon who is known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John;
10:3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;
10:4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who was also his betrayer.
10:5 These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them as follows: 'Do not make your way to gentile territory, and do not enter any Samaritan town;

Then

After Judas came Matthias

Ok so then Mary Magdalene is just a disciple?

Well not ‘ just’

But her role is very significant. And it seems Mary Magdalene is playing an important role atm with many discussing her.

A work of the. Holy Spirit
