Do we sleep too soundly in light of 1 million abortion deaths in the USA each year?

We vote. We march on January 22. We maybe say a rosary here and there for the unborn.

Then we go on with our lives as if mass killing of the innocent was not happening in the USA.

We sleep fine in our soft beds every night.

If they were killing 10,000 Catholic priests every year, would we be so complacent?

If the trains were still running to Auschwitz, taking Jewish people to the mass killing stations day after day, would we be so complacent?

We act like there’s nothing more we can do.

I participated in March for Life in 1996. Here we are 16 years later, and nothing has changed.

I think we delude ourselves with March for Life. It gets about 30 seconds on the evening news, and that’s it. Nothing changes.

If you had a chronic, painful medical condition and your doctor treated you for 16 years and it never got better, would not you be interested in finding a more effective treatment?

We must do only nonviolent things and things that respect the human dignity of everyone.

But are there not other things we could be trying?

If we all just continue to sleep well every night in our compfy beds, and shop, and eat out like nothing is happening, why don’t we just admit we really don’t care about unborn children being killed en masse in the USA. Let’s just close all the Pro-Life offices. This is becoming a big joke.

Why do I suggest?

Does the “Occupy Movement” give us some hint?

I hate stuff like sit-ins and protest occupations. Yuk.

But we must do something effective, rather than just doing symbolic ineffective things.

How about this? On a given Friday, we all drive our cars to the downtown areas of nearby big cities, and then, with our cars in the middle of the streets, we stop our cars and turn off the engines. Traffic would come to a halt. Then, 15 minutes later we all drive off, before we get arrested. It would sort of be like a flash mob action. We send notice to the news bureaus that this was 15 minutes for the unborn. It would be all over the TV news. We could repeat this at random times about once a month, until abortion is outlawed.

Or, you are smart. You can propose a better idea here. But something, Not just waiting 500 years.

At our parish we have a respect for life commission. We work to attempt to make a difference. We not only pray but ‘do’. We go to planned parent hood centers and we protest. We take ‘gift’ bags to the mothers there and hand them to them. Bags full of diapers, baby lotions, powders, and reading material. We show them there is another way and that there are people who will help. We make sure they aren’t alone.

Recently one of the ‘abortion clinics’ not far from here closed it’s door. In their statement to the news of why, they stated ‘local opposition.’ I highly suggest that if anyone is not involved in their parishes work in this area, or if their parish doesn’t have a committee designed to do so, to get one started or get involved.

This Monday churches all over are going to be ringing their bells for an hour. An hour for each million children that have been aborted since Roe vs. Wade. Our bell is manual and hasn’t been rung in years. I imagine that hearing that bell and seeing a group of people gathered around it will draw some attention. Get involved

That’s all good stuff. That sort of local action is effective. It may not lead to laws against abortion, but it does clearly have the effect of driving abortionists out of the local area and of helping mothers make the righteous choice. I will see what actions like that I might get involved with.

Isn’t 39 years (1973 to 2012) of mass murder in the USA enough?

I still want us all to unite and do something that is non-violent and respectful but significant that will wake up America.

How can we let the Liberals of that Occupy Movement get SO MUCH media attention, while we, in the Pro-Life movement, relatively speaking, get hardly any attention.

One thing to remember is that the media is very left biased. Very few organizations are going to carry information about abortion protests in that nature. Until the media returns (or ever actually becomes) a neutral bias in this country it’s going to remain difficult to get national recognition of this sort of movement.

How about this idea.

We Pro-Lifers vow to wear nothing but black colored clothing until abortion stops in America.

We could have exceptions for weddings and baptisms.

We people ask us, “Why are you dressed in all black all the time?” our standard answer could be, "Because they’ll killing babies in America."

If employers try to fire us, we could file and win big money legal judgments for violating our religious rights under the 1st Amendment. Soon they’d be afraid and would leave us alone. If the bishops endorsed this custom, it would be strictly protected under the Constitution and federal employment laws, like Orthodox Jews who cannot work on their Sabbath (sunset Friday to sunset Saturday).

Just think: 50 million Pro-Life Americans dressed in all black, day in and day out, until the blessed day when the killing stops.

Or, we could just keep doing for the next 39 years all the stuff we’ve doing for the last 39 years, and hope it somehow becomes effective.

Now that is an interesting idea, and one I can adopt. As my current wardrobe wears out, replace it with all black attire. I do not have the money to throw out my current wardrobe and replace it tomorrow.

There is only so much pro lifers can do. Women and men need to stop having sex outside of marriage. Will that ever happen? Highly unlikely.

I think one could take it even farther than just black clothes. The Jewish people used to do the whole ‘sackcloth and ashes’ thing. Imagine if every Catholic showed how much they truly believed by rending their clothes and wearing sackcloth and ash? I doubt such would ever happen, but that would be something to actually get the news involved.
