I suppose I never thought about it, but men do tend to sin more than women in our society. Maybe not in a different society, but in ours I believe they may. Women are often left “holding the bag” when men sin, because as mothers and the glue of most families they feel obligated to keep things together regardless of men’s behavior - and most of the they want to do this. This is particularly true in lower socioeconomic circles where married parents are the exception.
Men cheat on their wives more than the reverse, commit more crimes (especially violent crimes), fund the porn industry, start wars, and are more likely to abandon their families. This is probably because men have stronger aggressive tendencies because of how they’re made. In most situations testosterone is used for good instead of evil, but in certain circumstances this is a recipe for disaster.
Women tend to be more passive and peace-making. Yes, they can be underhanded and jealous and thieving and manipulative, but some of these are less of a sin against someone else as they are against God.

Maybe the idea that women sin less is due to them being viewed as more passive and easily duped. Also, women just come across as much more sympathetic than men for just about every sin.
Women who participate in pornography are victims of abuse not greedy sinners.
Women don’t fornicate, they are tricked by unscrupulous men who promise them love and then abandon them.
Women don’t participate in the sin of abortion, they forced into it by a society that fails to provide maternal support.
Women don’t gossip, they vent.
I guess we all have reasons for the sins we commit, but none of those reasons should ever amount to an excuse.

I think this is compounded by women often paying a higher price socially for the same sins men commit. I know in many places sexual sins by women were nigh-unforgivable, while men were more likely to be given a bit more of a pass for their “weakness.” There’s more of a pressure on women to appear to have it all together, which makes it harder for women to admit to their faults.Maybe the idea that women sin less is due to them being viewed as more passive and easily duped.
