Hi

As fairly strict catholics (which most of you seem to be) do you believe all non religious people who live together / have sex before marriage will goto hell ??

Andy

Hi

Thanks for the link. Looks like most of us will end up in hell then … wohooooo … bring on the party. Sounds better than heaven anyway, going by the article very few people make it there so it would be too quiet for me.

Andy

Fortunately most of us “fairly strict Catholics” have better things to do with our time than speculate on such ridiculous propostitions.

And most of us strict Catholics are too strict to judge, anyway. 😛

The thread is long. I doubt you really read it to the end to understand what you were saying above.

The Church does not teach what you are thinking. Please read through the thread.

Andy, I am sure you never meant to say “sounds better than heaven”.

As a “strict Catholic” I find it fruitless to speculate on who is or is not going to hell. I know what mortal sin is and I have enough to do keeping myself out of it without wondering who else is in it.

Andy, I do not think you understand what Hell is.

Andy…

Jesus said: repent for the kingdom is at hand.
The Kingdom is already among us and it started with His coming. Its fulfillment will be in heaven.

The Christian approach is to live the kingdom-life here and now-. When I go out and evangelise: tell people: “Hey guys, I found something extraordinary and wonderful and I wish you come to know it too”, then I dont think so much about heaven although I wish we all go there… I think of the fullness in life when we know Christ and therefore know Love and that becomes the point on which we measure everything… I want everyone to have such intensity of the life here and now that comes from knowing Christ and living in Him.
Does that make any sense to you?

He is our Peace, our Heaven.

Give you an example… before I became a Christian I heard that sex was a trivial thing to be done whereever and with whomever… I learned that my body was nothing special… that marriages come and go… that humans are really monkeys in disguise… -All of secular world thinking is geared at making the human person merely exist instead of LIVING… as he was called to do.

When I met Christ I felt… that I was for the first time in my life AWAKE. Everything now has a profound meaning.

Sp let’s focus on this life before we focus on the coming. Eternity has already started… and we are already setting the standard here on earth as to how we wanna live in eternity.

When you say you prefer hell I take no offense… you are a spiritual illiterate as am I when it comes to heavenly bliss… only at glimpses have I experienced something that made me think; this is what heaven must be like…

Oh yes… and I know someone who was dead once…
Did you know Christ still raises people from the dead?

As a human being, I wish and hope that all go to heaven. As a Christian I have to accept GOD is the ultimate perfectionist, every sin I commit merits hell and even me being human merits hell by default because I was born with original sin. Every sin merits hell because it is an offense against in ultimate infinite good. If the infinite is offended, justice dictates that a price must be paid in full which is infinity in hell. My only hope is to become exactly like Christ in every way and by destroying myself and my humanity, God will no longer hold those sins against me because I am no longer myself but a part of Christ. Since Im far from doing that now I pretty much have accepted that I am going to hell and that most people are going to hell. Yet there is nothing to despair in this because we never merited heaven to begin with. Only God deserves to be in Gods presence all other are but maggots and pestilence to him and would distract from his self love.

You forgot the final chapter in your accurate analysis of the human condition and the realisation of human inability to save one self.
You forgot to mention that the infinite penalty has been payed by the holy Blood of Yeshua the Messiah.
Dont despair. Jesus calls you to freedom.

No I did not. God at all times gives us the Grace to be perfect and gives us no test that we can not pass. We are saved by grace but it requires our works or in other words our utter submission to the will of the master. Since I sin everyday it is clear that I activly choose to resist and refuse grace from God daily it speaks to my character. My character in having actively chosen sin reveals that I sin against the holy spirit, the unforgivable sin. I warrant hell, it is only when I perfectly submit to God and sin no more do I have any chance of heaven. It is not depair to know one’s self and accept it. I may hope that I will change but I know it is my fault, and my fault alone that I burn in hell if I die today. God is infinitly good, and I am infinitly evil by my own choice. That is what it comes down to and from my experience most are in the same boat.
I also want it known that I still think it is good to be christian even if we are going to hell, and that we should help each other because when we do we make it easier for another to go to heaven whose character is strong and pure enough to make it there.

Have you ever heard of the pelagian heresy? I think you are getting dangerously close to the the thinking of brother Pelagius who thought that God had given us everything we need in order to succeed, that we choose to follow Him or not and are totally capable of choosing and becoming holy and perfect because God would not demand something impossible of us. We are created with free will to choose.
WRONG - said Saint Augustine: You have made the sacrifice of Jesus Christ superfluous dear brother Pelagius. Please understand that even if you strive your best from this day on you are doomed anyway. You can never save your self. God in Christ is our only Hope, HE is our righteousness.
Because He is your all, you have a duty… yes a duty, as a child to believe that you are going to heaven if you die today. Not because of you. But because of HIM. You trust in His Mercy which is greater than any of your failures… and you will make many every day until you die. He is our Salvation. He alone.
Thats the beauty of Christianity.

no we believe that anyone who dies in a state of unrepentant mortal sin goes to hell. Mortal sin can only be committed by someone who commits a gravely evil act, knowing its seriousness, and does it freely and willfully. Unrepentent means that God judges each person at the moment of death, giving them full knowledge of Him, of their sins as well as their good actions in life, and all the knowledge necessary to choose between union with him, or rejection of him, for all eternity, and the unrepentent person chooses hell (rejection).

Actually a Christian who has been raised to know, love and serve God, and has been taught his commandments and their consequences, has a much greater burden of obedience than someone who has never heard the truth about God, and who has not been taught morality. The second person will be judged much more leniently if their sin was done unknowingly, or without knowing the extent of the evil or reasons for it, than will the first person, who had full knowledge yet sinned anyway.

choosing hell (rejecting God) does not mean one long party with the fun people, it means eternal agony, self-loathing and pain. the real party, with all the joy, is heaven

Yes I have, but in no way am I dening original sin, it is real and by itself warrants hell. I am also not denying grace, what I am saying is that by sinning daily that I have actively chosen sin. I can not sin and say I did not choose that sin, that is to believe in predetermination and to abandon the concept of a free will. Gods Mercy comes at a price. he does not show it to anyone who chooses sin. Jesus did not say go and try to sin no more, He said Go and sin No More. We have the choice to be sinless, but so many of us including me choose to sin.

Only GOD knows for sure who goes to heaven and who doesn’t. We all sin…we all fail at times to live up what we need to do to be in that group. I don’t happen to think you need to be a strict Catholic to go to heaven. I think being the best Christian you can be is all you can do. Beyond that it’s up to GOD. I’ve also heard of possible exceptions for non christians as well weather that be Jewish, Muslem, Buddist or Hindu. 👍

Yet the answer from St. Augustin was also that we cannot choose not to sin. Why? because our will has been impaired… weakened. He talkes of us as sick and in need of a doctor. Our sight being blurred…
Then what happens? The Holy Spirit comes in… not as a stirring of the intellect where we decide that we have the right faith now but as a power that comes solely from Him in a sovereign intervening act of grace. He comes in and lives in us and with Him within, there is for the first time a stronger force than sin in us. That force or power is Him. The Holy Spirit. Now we are prepared so we can stand a chance fighting against sin.
However. God does not tell us to be perfect in order that we enter heaven. He just does not. Jesus says: “Be perfect” But He also says: “No one is good but God”.
He calls us to humbly love, believe, confess and repent…
But as John says: “If a man says : I have no sin he is a liar and the truth is not in him”.
We have to understand the balance of all this knowlege given us by the Church.

This sounds like once saved always saved to me or maybe determinism or maybe even Universal Salvation because it sounds like you are dening free will?

I can not say that I will ever be without sin because I am guilty of original sin and personal sin, to deny that would be another sin. Im not sure by your words but you seem to imply that God does not give us the grace to avoid every sin, which denies the infinte Goodness of God. He has promised not to give us a cross we could not bare and never to abandon us. I have the sole responsability of being open to and accepting that grace, that is all, and if I ever do completely I will not sin. Yet I continue to sin which means I am not open to Gods grace completely.
I also agree with you that as a human I doubt what the Fathers will is, yet this has nothing to do with God but with my own pride. If I was to vanquish my pride which God at all times gives me the grace to do I would know the Fathers will perfectly because Jesus fully revealed the Fathers will to us. Yet again I deny this grace and my pride remains, and what Jesus revealed remains unclear demonstrating my division from Christ and my eternal damnation.
