Do you even lift? The Gym Thread

I love to lift, to run etc. and I have been doing it for all my grown up life!

I do however have really mixed feelings about the whole gym culture. I believe putting too much energy on looking beautiful is really really bad for your spiritual life. It always crosses my mind when I enter the gym that if we put as much effort on improving our inner qualities, that gym would be like a Carthusian monastery!

It also bothers me that people wear such little clothes there, but maybe that is just a Scandinavian thing? 🤷

Cheers 👍

I have a gym in my garage for lifting and a bit of cross-fit, don’t hate!

Currently looking at making the jump to a full cage from Rogue Fitness.

I try to spend time when I can in the gym. It definitely does help mentally too so for those who are stressed, down or just plain out of it- get some exercise, lift, do cardio, zumba, etc.

How many lbs do you guys lift? I do only 10 lbs for the obliques- that’s all hehe 😃 Oh and I include Jesus in my workout by saying a quick prayer and sign of the cross before a workout. 👍
I have not maxed out in any lifts in a really long time (probably close to a year or more)
But I rep 200 in the bench press.
I rep 205 in squats (I know I should be able to rep way more but I did not workout my legs for the for the first 6 months or so because I did not have a gym membership yet and I was working out at home with a half broken bench that I did not trust)
I rep 305 in deadlifts
I rep 85lbs in barbell curls but should move up to 90 real soon. Maybe next bicep workout.
I rep 125 in shoulder presses.

I consider those my major lifts. I should be way further along in strength but I tend to lift for 2 or three months straight then stop for a month or two and start up again. It has been a rough couple years though. Not as easy as when I was a 17 year old kid with no real responsibilities.

I’m a powerlifter in the 220lb weight class. Been lifting for about 7 years with a focus on the 3 lifts for about 5 years. Great sport and I enjoy it. Anyone interested in help on squat/bench/deadlift let me know
