Do you feel different after confession?

I actually feel a gap or a distance between me and God when I have sinned - it’s a terrible, hollow feeling. Once I have confessed and am absolved I feel close to God - I feel at peace and it encourages me to keep it that way.

I feel much the same way. It’s very very rare that I feel joy after confessing my sins, because there’s this pain in my heart knowing that I have offended God. Its that part that brings much sadness. When I was younger I wasn’t sure if I was fully cognizant of all the aspects of receiving true contrition and pardon for my sins, although some part of me inside felt better that yes I did receive pardon from Jesus. Today doing an honest and sincere Examination of Conscious can at times be difficult with many distractions in life. But I do make the best of an effort. Personally; I have always preferred a private one to one confession with a priest who’s a spiritual director. I always feel much better after saying a good confession after this instance, but never this over-joyed feeling that my sins have been washed away. And yes I do sincerely thank God for pardoning my sins. But there’s always this painful sting in my heart knowing that I have offended God due to my sins and pride.

Though often there is rare instance or privilege to find a priest who is a spiritual director and who has the time to hear your confessions in private there’s always the confessional box which on many occasions on Saturdays in my Parish seems awfully rushed because so many are lined up. And then there are occasions when you have a difficult time finding your parish priest to hear your confession because he is busy rushing from saying Mass in one parish and then rushing to say Mass in another parish due to the increasing lack of priests in my archdiocese. I wonder if this is why General Absolution Services are seen in some parishes.
