Do you find when you watch older comedies that you now side with the parents and not the children?

When I was younger I thought the teenagers were cool and the parents were a bit stuffy but now I find it funny from the other side as a parent, I see the parents’ point of view and the teens look like brats.

The happier times…

I don’t know about the comedies, but when I watch old shows like The Lone Ranger, Perry Mason, Alfred Hitchcock Presents and others, they seem a lot cornier now than when I was a kid. I still enjoy them, but they really are quite corny.

You were born in the wrong decade, my friend! 😊

I can’t think of a show where I sided with the teens even when I was a teen. 🤔
I did watch reruns of The Patty Duke Show when I was a kid. I guess I just dated myself. 🤓

Are there any shows in particular you were thinking of when you posted this??? 🙂

I remember The Patty Duke Show. Also, Leave It To Beaver. And, Dennis the Menace. Those were shows kids could watch. Today, parents have to monitor everything. Going way back – Wagon Train and Sergeant Preston of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. It didn’t take much to please this kid, program-wise.

How about Father Knows Best. The Roy Rogers Show. They still air those reruns.
There were all kinds of good programs like that – simple, clean, with good moral messages. Maybe not entirely realistic, but fiction never is.

A couple of British programs plus the fresh prince.

I know he wasn’t a teenager but Mahoney in Police Academy I thought was great but now see him as immature, more so in the sequels than the first one.

Even Father Ted, again not a teenager but I thought Father Dougal was funny but I think Father Ted is great and that couple who hate each other but pretend to be loving in front of the priests.
