Do you have a devotion to a specific Saint?

In the same vein as the “do you have any favorite devotions” thread. Is there a specific Saint who you identify yourself with and have a devotion to?

For myself, it’s pretty obvious; my life has greatly been shaped by Saint Francis of Assisi. I reverted back to the Church after going to a youth conference at the Franciscan University of Steubenville. Meanwhile, as it so happens my birthday is October 4th.

So to me, I have always felt that St. Francis has been praying and looking out for me, even when I didn’t know it. In turn, over the course of my Christian walk I have molded my spiritual life in a Franciscan fashion. “Poverty and preaching, with a bit of teaching” as I explain it to others, plus an emphasis on community and works.

A great man who did great things. I can think of worse people to model my spiritual and temporal life after.

Since becoming a Benedictine oblate, St Benedict and St Scholastica as well as St Meinrad, the patron of the Archabbey I’m connected to, have become very important in my devotional life.

Tuesday is the day on which St Benedict has been traditionally honoured each week by Benedictines as well. St Benedict truly is one’s guide in the spiritual life and a great protector. Devotion to his holy medal allows one to feel the power of his intercession as well as the promise he made to all who would celebrate his holy and glorious death to be with them in the hour of our death.

St Meinrad, a Benedictine hermit in the forests of Einsiedeln in Switzerland, was accosted by bandits who demanded he give them his treasure. He took them to his chapel and pointed to the Madonna on it as “his treasure.” His two pet crows followed the bandits after they killed Meinrad and made such a commotion that the people took note and arrested the bandits immediately. The great monastery of Our Lady of Einsiedeln today marks the spot of holy Meinrad’s hermitage.

Papally-approved tradition holds that Christ Himself consecrated the Church at Einsiedeln so that Bishop St Eberhard was told not to go through with his planned consecration of it. This miraculous event is commemorated on September 14th, Holy Cross Day, each year.

St. Gerard, to whose intercession I am convinced I owe my daughter’s safe birth, holds now a special place in my heart.
 
Since childhood I was fascinated by the story of Sts Benedict and Scholastica and have remained devoted to both since. I chose Benedict as my confirmation name.

yes, i do. a few of them. namely Saint Therese of Lisiuex.
 
Yes. Saint Michael the Archangel (he was my Confirmation Saint), Saint Therese of Lisieux, and Saint John of the Cross.
 
Being an unbaptised neophyte heathen as of yet, I am only just developing my prayers; however, a few recent encounters have given me ideas. 🙂 The Diocesan Franciscans of this city are very forward in confessing their love for St. Francis of Assisi. One of them, a seminarian, recommended the Little Flowers of St. Francis. When I had finished reading them, I knew that St. Francis had interceded with God for me… for whatever ineffable reason, in Heaven, so I feel a strong brotherly affection for that man.

Most important of all will be my future devotion to St. Thomas Aquinas. He was the reason for the first inklings of conversion in my soul. Nothing has given me more hope, joy, and faith than Summa Theologica. For this instruction alone, he is the greatest master of my moral upbringing (apart from God). When Cardinal Newman is recognised as a saint, also, I shall be moved to ask for his prayers in the face of God. Nicholas Owen, S.J., who died at the hands of Anglicans, as well as Nicholas of Myra and blessed St. Peter are also very influential on me, and I consider them to be wondrous fellow children of our God. :o
 
The saints I keep close to me: St. Theresa of Lisieux, Padre Pio, St. Joseph, St. Maria Goretti, St. Francis de Sales and St. Raphael. There is one more, Blessed Andre (Montreal) who will be officially canonized in October and of course last but not least, the Blessed Virgin. I also love very much dear St. John Vianney.

Jesus through Mary first and foremost for me, so most of my devotion time is directed toward the Marian side, but I venerate a first class relic of St Bernadette at a local parish. I also hold dear St Alphonsus Liguori and his writings to satisfy my interest in the dark side 🙂

But, there again, both St Bernadette and St Alphonsus point me toward Mary. As many Saints will.
 
The Immaculate Conception, patroness of the USA and my former archiodcese, and St. Joseph, whose name I took at confirmation.
 
St Agustine (confirmation Saint) who has proabably prayed for me a lot with the lifestyle that I’ve been traying to get out of. Also huge devotion to St. Michael, Raphael, & Gabriel the Archangels.
