Especially in light of demographic trends, particularly in the Western World. If I may ask, how do you deal with such discouraging signs?

Read up on the message of Fatima and LaSalette and you will have complete hope! Our Lady predicted all that we are seeing over the last century. She confirms restoration will come.

Not so much hope as the knowledge it will persevere until the end. It has been through rough times and will in the future. The Church converted the pagan West in its infancy and will do it again if it becomes necessary.

Our hope is that Christ alone will have the final judgment which will result in Victory over sin.

All I can do us pray for the first communion children that at least some will stay with the faith.

Matthew 16:18 - ‘On this rock I will be my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it’.

Catechism of the Catholic Church: 675 - “Before Christ’s second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers. The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the “mystery of iniquity” in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. The supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh.”

The challenges we are facing now are more than likely not what is described here, but we could be seeing the beginning of it.

I remember that the Church is Catholic and is not limited to one nation or group of nations .

I recall the events of history and put things into perspective .

I read what the Bible teaches e.g. in Ecclesiastes " There is nothing new under the sun " and in Hebrews " Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith ."

The Lord Jesus said that the ‘gates of hell shall not prevail’ over the Church but he didn’t say that the Church would thrive. In fact, the Bible asks whether there will be faith on earth when the Son of Man returns?

Prophecy tells us that there will be a great apostasy before the coming of the Lord. I believe we’re currently living through this apostasy and that it extends to the highest levels in the Church.

I remember the words that Jesus said to St Peter, “Thou art Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of Hell shall not prevail…”

The Church isn’t going anywhere.

Western Civilization?
Pretty much dead in the water.

I remember that the Church was born in a corrupt and immoral culture, made up of a rag tag bunch of ordinary people, and it turned everything upside down and shaped our modern world.

And there’s always the ‘property of the Almighty God’ thing which is a pretty solid grounding.

Not to mention the people of God are in open rebellion against His word

This is why the Church in Europe is in decline. St. John Paul II said that “European culture gives the impression of ‘silent apostasy’ on the part of people who have all they need and who live as if God does not exist.” (Ecclesia in Europa n. 9). This means that most European Catholics have renounced or abandoned their ancestral faith - or as you say, have rebelled against God and his word. Many of these rebels are still nominally Catholic; and this includes Cardinals, Bishops, Religious and Priests.

These apostate clerics remain in the Church because it provides them with power, status and money. Many sought ordination because the roman cassock provided a cloak for their homosexuality - and they remain in the Church because it provides them with a convenient opportunity for their depraved lifestyles.
