I am aware of a person who has epileptic seizures at any given time but I have noticed this happens more so especially at importanat times of the Mass such as the moment before the Gospel and during the Eucharistic prayer. Does anyone knowledgable have any thoughts on this?

Although I am no expert, I suspect that the strain of those moments trigger episodes.

This isn’t a trick question. I am hoping that someone who treats this malady or experiences this malady or knows someone who does can give me (name removed by moderator)ut.

Hello Binney,

My daughter sufferes from epilepsy and has since was 4yrs old. She is now 14yrs so I am very familiar with the contition. I am a little unclear as to your question. My daughter does have trouble in mass and will often have the feeling that one is coming on at certain times in Mass. She recently had surgery to have the vagus nerve stimulator or (VNS threapy) we are pleased with the results thus far. Stressful sisuations will trigger episodes even if you are taking medications which is why the VNS helps as the patient has more control over the episodes and can stop them using the magnet.

Please let me know if you need anymore help and I can point you in the right direction or give you any informantion I have. Do you know someone who has epilespy?

My grandmother who had seizures due to a brain injury instead of epilepsy and stressfull situations and emotional distress would set them off. She passed after the seizure she had when her dog, Little One went missing.

My daughter had them from the age of 3 to the age of 8 and seems that she out grew them.

Epilepsy attacks often have trigers. Certain light, noise, or feelings can trigger horrible attacks. A doctor is your best bet. I have friends who are on medications, doing the diet , and have had brain surgery. Find out which is best for your situation.
