**“know” **is the operative word…
You have had no experience of unlikely answers to prayer that surprised you?“Know for sure” no, but I have faith God’s working on them, but he may not want what I want, and well since I pray for others they may be working. Its not like I"ve had any immediate miracles tho, but my family is safe and no emergences lately, so some of them are working.![]()
What about the here and now? That’s gonna be one of the awesome things about heaven.
Oh yes. Some I know have been very effective because of immediate response (and I’m sorry but it’s not coincidence or good timing - some prayers I have made have been immediately and clearly answered).**“know” **is the operative word…![]()
Perhaps they have been answered but not in the way you expected. An apparent failure to answer often turns out as a blessing in disguise…Oh yes. I know. With all of my heart. That God hears some of my prayers.
That said, I am not certain He hears them all (although some have taken years to be answered).
Well possibly, but more like nothing bad happens as I pray for health and safety of my family, and they are, and well I pray for a lot so I don’t know. I mean praying I pass a test, or my doctor appoint goes well or we have a safe trip, so yes praying does help. Also some of my prayers have not materialized as of yet, but I’m sure God is working on them in his time. You have had no experience of unlikely answers to prayer that surprised you?
You know… I’m a convert from Protestantism. In that tradition there was such a thing as ‘praise’ moments. Where the congregation would talk about answered prayers. I always found that time very uplifting and fun.Perhaps they have been answered but not in the way you expected. An apparent failure to answer often turns out as a blessing in disguise…
Even though I’m not superstitious my prayers to St Anthony have been successful so many times it seems very unlikely they are all due to coincidence - and they’re not limited to things that have been lost…Well possibly, but more like nothing bad happens as I pray for health and safety of my family, and they are, and well I pray for a lot so I don’t know. Have you?
When I was younger Catholics weren’t allowed to sing Protestant hymns but now we sing them in church and I find them so beautiful and inspiring. I agree but perhaps the Philosophy forum is not the most appropriate place.Perhaps we Catholics should start sharing our answered prayers a bit more.
That may involve too many complex issues…And you’re right. Some prayers may have been answered in ways I didn’t expect so I haven’t seen the answers. I need to pray for the wisdom to know when I am receiving an answer.![]()
Whoops… I didn’t even realize what forum we were in! Darn those quick links!!!When I was younger Catholics weren’t allowed to sing Protestant hymns but now we sing them in church and I find them so beautiful and inspiring. Protestantism has a lot to offer…

More than a few! The older we are the more experiences we have - of narrow escapes from death for example. Anyone who lives in Africa for a long time needs to pray a lot!An apparent failure to answer often turns out as a blessing in disguise…
You know your so right, I say that all the time, Thank God, we didn’t do that or this, as it was a blessing in disguise.
I do believe God works in mysterious ways, so its hard to know sometimes. I think my prayers have been answered a lot as nothing bad has happened, and I thank him all the time, and well he sure has anwered my prayers for strenght to endure.
How about you?We were typing at the same time!
So St Anthony is you Saint and good friend it sounds. So you’ve probably been surprised a few times by the way it sounds.
