Do You Know of Any Traditional, Teen Audio Series?

What I’m hoping to do is have a fun family night sort of thing with my Protestant kids.

Maybe pop some popcorn or order pizza and put on some interesting audio on the iPod.

– They can’t be grown-up dull
– They can’t be liberal/modern
– there needs to be good solid teaching, including biblical teaching
– the speakers have to either be able to relate to young people or be relatively young themselves.

After we listen to the audio, then we can discuss it.

Are my requirements too much?

If not, any links to websites where I can download audio or even purchase audio series would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Dan Daly, I know you have teens, so I would love your (name removed by moderator)ut.

Tim Staples’ “Calling All Teens”. You can buy it for about three dollars and it’s really, really good.
 
My one stop shop for great Catholic Audio:

Audiosancto.org

Tons of sermons on there by solidly Catholic, Catholic priests. I don’t know how young most of them are, but I find at least most of the speakers to be very engaging and approach their topics in a way that a young person can relate to.

You can browse by topic on their website, or if you have some subject in particular that you are looking for perhaps I can help you find one that deals with it (I’ve listend to a lot of them).

I’m listening to one now. It’s interesting how they don’t list the name of the homilist. I guess that’s a good one.

Although I recognize the voice of the person giving the homily I’m listening to.

I see lots of possibilities. 👍

Names come up once in awhile, so if you listen to enough you figure out who most of them are. Primarily it is FSSP priests, although there are few who are not FSSP.

My wife teases me about how often I recommend the site to people. It’s great stuff.

I downloaded over 500 sermons into my iTunes, through the podcast, and what a pleasure it is to commute and listen to those sermons.

Today I had my kids come into my room and they groaned and muttered, but they came.

We listened to Preparing for Martyrdom, and even though they claimed it was boring, they had lots of questions.

I plan on doing this more and more.

I really think these sermons can be springboards for great conversation and teaching.

I like that site too, I listen to many of the sermons, and have downloaded some of them to listen to on my Mp3 player or computer too.

Not prying…just VERY curious. How is it that you were able to convert without your kids following along? Aren’t kids impressionable and will basically tag along with mom if she says its a grand idea?
 
I have downloaded all the audiosancto files and I have some reservations in relation to some statements and how some ideas are presented. I think that in general is a great resource but quite a bit too heavy for a relaxed conversation with kids, I would say that it is more appropriate as an introduction to a more formal discussion.

As a general podcast to get started with teenagers I would give a shot at the J10 initiative. It is quite funny, quite orthodox but depending on your sensitivities I would encourage you to listen to a few of them and form your own opinion before exposing kids to them, the same goes for the ausiosancto files too. I really like it but I can listen to very boring things as funny ones, to very traditional presentations and to almost heretical ones.

Morgan, don’t start with me. I see it coming. 😃

My kids are 19, 17 and 14. So they’re a little old.

I can force the 14 and 17 year old to leave their Church, in which they were just confirmed by the way, or I can live an exemplary life, talk to them about Catholicism and pray for them.

I have already caused enough confusion in their lives.

Listening to the same topic presented with two different styles can help too. Do not simply go for an either or solution, maybe two different presentations on the same topic could push different buttons. You know your kids and so trust your judgement even if someone else could think differently.
 
hahaha I’m not going to start a debate at all. I was just curious as to how that works. Like I said, I just assumed if mom leaves then they all leave. In my case it was different, as I didn’t grow up in the church (only Holidays), just with Catholic guilt. So, if my mother tried to get me to attend mass more I would have refused, as she NEVER went to mass.

I just assumed that you were a devout attendee at your last place of worship and made it a family thing. Due to that you’d think that your kids would gladly go with you, as worship services aren’t alien to them.

Again, not being judgmental at all.

It hurts me that we are not going to church as family. They say they dont care but I don’t believe them. We do attend together once a month when I have to sing then do the catered brunch in the church together. They are pretty resistant to Catholicism.
 
Why are they so resistant and if they feel so strongly about it did you feel the exact same way before you considered conversion? If so, how did you end up coming to Catholicism? Hope you don’t mind the questions! Real conversion stories are always of interest to me. I hate those other ones that talk about “well, I was doing research to prove any person who isn’t a Baptist wrong…”. It’s always the same story just with different denominations. It is much more inspiring and faith affirming when you hear about a parent doing it on their own, or a teenager taking themselves to RCIA.
