I love jazz! My iPod has 376 CDs on it, about 90 percent or so are jazz. My last purchase was Tony Bennett’s Playing with My Friends–the duet with Diana Krall is worth the price of the entire CD.

Some opinions:
The most important album ever: Miles Davis Kind of Blue. (Try Jon Hendricks’ vocal version of *Freddie Freeloader *on the CD of the same name.)

Best Piano trio album ever: Oscar Peterson’s Night Train.

I would love to keep this thread going or maybe start a new one for Jazz fans to share music finds, jazz lore and history, opinions, etc.

I like jazz in the Ragtime, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie & Dizzy Gillespie style.

One thing I remember in college was listening to the college’s jazz band–one of the things the director had them do to start was an improv w/ only one note (just the one note and rests …) It was incredible! I’d say one has to be an exceptionally talented musician to pull that sort of thing off.

My favorite of all music, though is Tchaikovsky’s.

I like live jazz. Not too interested in listening to recorded jazz. Seeing the musicians create the music, to me, is what makes it enjoyable.

i love it. i haven’t always listened to it. but i like diana krall,. a fellow canadian and jazz singer. she has one of the most amazing voices in the world of jazz that i ever heard. jazz is relaxing to the aches and pains of the mind and body. it soothes the soul. do you like jazz? what do you like about it?
Dave Brubeck: a genius, and a Catholic.
