I like to listen to Catholic books while I"m driving. Anyone else??

Have any recommendations?

You only looking for catholic books or just good audiobooks generally?

You can mention secular books if you like, that’s fine.

Mere Christianity. Even if you’ve read it, it is different when you hear it spoken. It was originally a series of radio broadcasts.

Oh yes, I have that from audible actually. There are quite a few different versions of it available.

Earlier this evening I was listening to some of Way of Perfection, one of three major works written by Teresa of Avila.

I used to listen to the Lighthouse series.
They were brief and interesting and not too long to distract me in the highways.
There was a stand in my parish there where we could buy them.
I will check if you can get them for PC or iPhone

I listen on my phone in both the car and at home. I have an Amazon Audible subscription and up next is The Fisherman’s Tomb…

Also there are many free Catholic audiobooks available here…

I listen to a lot of Catholic podcasts so if anyone is interested in podcasts, I can point you in the right direction 😀

I also enjoy listening to Lighthouse Catholic Media talks while I’m driving or doing some light-work. Usually you can pick up multiple talks of theirs at most church entrances for a monetary donation

I’m going to check out this link @yankeesouth, thanks!

I have an Audible subscription, and I listen on my phone when I’m driving or working on mind-numbing chores. Last year I started working my way thru several books on the American Civil War, and currently I’m listening to Eric Foner’s book on the Reconstruction in the American South.

I also listen to books using the text-to-speech function on my Kindle.

Text to speech, a? That must be thrilling. 😃 (Maybe the software has gotten better.)

Had it on my old Gen 3 Kindle Keyboard that just died. I made sure that the replacement Gen 8 also has it. The old Kindle had a built-in speaker and a slot for earphones; the new one is Bluetooth only, but that’s okay.

I either read or listen to audiobook some portion of every day. I use my Kindle or Overdrive app on my phone, my pc and my Alexa devices. I don’t have a long commute (less than 15 minutes) during the fall winter and spring, but in the summer my work may be up to an hour away and I listen to a lot of media in the car at that time.

I’m fairly eclectic in my tastes, anything that is interesting, basically. Librivox.org has downloads from the public domains and you can find a lot of classics, including some Catholic and good Christian authors. I have the EWTN which I listen to often and I also listen to kindle books a lot. Kindle Unlimited has a selection of books which are narrated, so if you are a member of KindleUnlimited, the narrated books are free. I’ve listened to quite a few of those, as well.

Currently, I’m listening to a mystery set in England in the 19th or early 20th century

I got Volume 1 (30 discs!) of Shelby Foote’s Civil War Narrative sitting around. I know once I start on that monster I am not going to want to stop so I want to be good and ready before I get into it. I find with audiobooks I don’t like listening to multiple titles, unlike when I actually read books I could jump between two or three.

Kindle Fire has really great text to speech options.

I’d also recommend Formed.org to our OP.

Public libraries have services like Overdrive/Libby, Hoopla that have many audio books. Listening to “The Jesuit Guide to Almost Everything” on Hoopla now.

Librivox has not only “Lord of the World” (a book many popes have recommended) and “Come Rack! Come Rope!” but other titles by RH Benson.

Yeah, I also tend to stick to one thing until I’m done with it. I’m glad I’ve got my audiobooks in digital format. 30 disks – yikes!

When I was working, I had an hour commute

So, I listened to audiobooks often, as talk radio was nonsense and the music changed.

I was doing one book a week… 😉

FYI, use your public library for audiobooks. They’re free and I was able to brows on-line and order what I wanted, They’d deliver it to my local library and I’d get an email message when I could pick it up,

Jim
