Does anyone here meditate? How do you meditate?

I just gotten into meditation and I feel like its teaching me to be silent so I can feel the presence of God. Its great to just be quiet for a while and get back into his presence.

Blessings!

Not as often as I should, but I do try 🙂 And yes, it does help!
It works wonders! When I think about it the only things that keeps me from meditating is that I put everything else ahead of it,its like I dont have time for God and how wrong is that?!

I do it for like 10-15 minutes at a time.Just silence.
With kids its almost impossible! LOL!!!

Storm,
You can read about meditation in the CCC I believe. I use, and I think that the CCC talks about it, the Holy Scriptures. I follow Lectio Divina which is what is in the CCC.

Lectio Divina is a beautiful way to meditate on the life and passion of Jesus Christ.

CCC - Is that Catechism of the Catholic Church?

I know how to pray (obviously), but I’ve never meditated in a Christian/Catholic sense. Is it the same basis as, say, a Buddhist meditating?

Sorry to sound ignorant.😦

Never feel ignorant…you are not. We are all on a path and are learning. I don’t meditate but I would love to read some of the answers. God Bless you on your journey!!

Yes, as part of Lectio Divina. Usually about 15 min.,sometimes a little bit less and sometimes (when I forget about time) a bit more. I’ve done that for a number of years and I don’t know how I could get through the day without it!!! On weekends I get to not watch the clock (children grown now but that’s not possible with the toddler grandchildren over) and I love:thumbsup: that!!!

Yes, CCC = Catechism
Christian meditation is different from Buddhist meditation in that the goal of Christian meditation is to commune with God, while Buddhist meditation is about centring on oneself.

Every night after compline or pious readings.

Saying the Rosary slowly. Letting my mind and heart fill with the images of people to pray for.

Pretty abundant and amazing.

I prefer the CCC’s terms:* vocal*, silent, and contemplative prayer. While there is nothing wrong the term meditation, it tends to associate the imagine of a white, bourgeois bohemian sitting in the lotus position before going out and plunking down $7,000 dollars on a stainless-steel refrigerator. 😃

Yes, sometimes I do… I used to do it more often but I definitely need to get back to it.

I found meditating on the incomprehensible vastness of God’s love so very comforting. Also, in my high school theology class, we all meditated on the Our Father, word by word… that was pretty amazing even though I was jaded and tried to reassure myself that I was an atheist. There’s just no escaping God’s infinite love!

TAN Books has quite a few good books on mental prayer, including Catechism of Mental Prayer, which I own, which is concise and easy to understand.🙂
