Do you need to be confirmed to be an EMHC or lector?

I was just wondering because my new school is asking the students if they want to sign up, but many of us haven’t been confirmed yet because of the pandemic.

To be a lector you do not need to be confirmed, to be a EMHC, you must.

I think dioceses set their own requirements. I have never seen being confirmed as a requirement in any of the Vatican documents regarding either. I was never asked about Confirmation in any of the parishes where I was commissioned to be an EMHC.

I believe you’re correct (of course), but I’ve seen several instructional texts from multiple dioceses and publishing houses that more or less say EMHCs need to be confirmed. They aren’t authoritative documents, mind you, but they’ve all had imprimatur/nihil obstat. FWIW, these were all authored in the US, iirc.

Same here, and I have served in a couple of different dioceses.

Our Bishop is a by the book guy so maybe he wants to be sure it’s done right. It’s not as if we have to provide proof of confirmation as most adults who have been Catholic for any length of time or who are married have been confirmed.
