My name is Deborah and his name is Jason …
Thank you Deborah - we started praying for you last night - hope you “felt the waves” !!

I love the idea of the holy cards. When I was trying to learn the Angelus, I carried one around with me everywhere because I just couldn’t seem to remember it when I needed to. I bought several and planted them around the house, in my purse, at my desk at work. That way I never had an excuse.

That might be a bit much for him though, better to ease him into it I would say. Just live the example of your Faith to him. Just as Christ’s Apostles were the ultimate examples to us, we need to be the example here on Earth to others. And this is your chance to be that example to your husband and son. What a wonderful and exciting thing to be!

Have a lovely holiday,

~Liza

Thank you Liza! That’s so sweet of you to remember us! God bless you! I do try to live the example, and I definitely don’t push. I told him emphatically I would not try to evangelize him, but I do seem him drawn to the faith anyway on his own. I gave him his own personal Bible for Christmas last year, and I have been putting little leaflets inside of it. One of the Ten Commandments, one about blaspheming the Lord’s name, one about the value in suffering, I think there’s also one that has the Lord’s prayer on it. As if he doesn’t have enough to read just in the Bible!! 😛 Of course some of that is redundant, but he doesn’t at this point know where to find the Lord’s prayer in the New Testament. He used to not be able to find the Ten Commandments, but I think he can now. He was reading through the book of Isaiah just recently, and then a day or two later two fellas on one of his favorite radio talk shows were discussing the exact passages he read. He said it felt real good to know what they were talking about!

Last night he did something dangerous and asinine, and made me furious with him. That seems to happen whenever the devil’s hold on him is being threatened. I’ve seen way too many conincidences to believe they’re mere coincidences. So, I believe your prayers were definitely heard! My husband’s birthday falls on St. Michael the Archangel’s feastday, which I think is one of the reasons the devil works hard to keep a hold on him, and also why my husband has not been totally taken over by evil, despite some hardfelt temptation. He has one of the greatest protectors of all time on his side. Now, he just has to see the value in faith, and in prayer in particular, and do the work himself. With the grace of God, this will happen, and it will be a beautiful thing!

Thanks again so much for your prayers. May God bless you and your husband!

Hey, I think that they would be LUCKY to find someone with that kind of thinking. You hold out for someone who feels the same way.
Well, one can hope. I really only have two hangouts. A nearby convent/retreat house/franciscan retirement infirmary where I attend daily Mass and pray the Morning Prayer (LOTH) with the Sisters. (I also help them out from time to time.) Of course the sisters are all “spoken for”! The other place I cruise for dates is my parish’s perpetual adoration chapel. No success yet. 🙂

Nothing other than grace before meals.

In as much as I’d like to, I hesitate to suggest it out of fear to freak her out. I go to daily Mass, pray the Rosary and Evening Prayer and I can’t say she’s taken all these developments without apprehension.

I pray to God that one day we’ll pray together, through Mary and Joseph, as Mary and Joseph and Jesus.

PRAYER FOR THOSE MARRIED
**
Lord, my God, have mercy on ALL THE COUPLES(those posting and their spouse) posting here on the forum. Grant that we may perceive that the married state is holy and that we must keep it so. Grant that no strife, quarrel, or enmity may arise between us or hereafter become active among us. Grant us our Daily Bread whereby we may ever serve You with a quiet mind and deepen our Communion with You and with each other. Let us finally attain to Your Kingdom and have You recognize us as Your own. For to You are due all glory, honor, and worship, together with Your Father Who is from everlasting, and Your All-Holy, Good, and Life-giving Spirit, now and ever and forever. AMEN.

Queenship Publishing Co. puts out a very nice prayer book called The Gold Book of Prayers*. Very reasonable too. I think it’s $3.95 plus shipping. You can also find it in Catholic book stores. My DH & I use it frequently.

Peace,

I wish we did, but we married many years ago when I was pretty much out of Christianity altogether. Since then I have become Catholic (he did also, but mostly for family unity, I think) and more involved in the faith. I think he feels I changed the terms after marriage, and in his family guys don’t do religion anyway. A tough situation.

I do not have a spouse. Praying together on a regular basis, in addition to daily Mass and the Divine Office, is a prerequsite to anyone I may potentially be with.

You can tell that I, as a middle-aged man, get a lot of dates this way (yeah, right!) 🙂
If I were not already spoken for, I would want a man like this. I am in a long-distance relationship, otherwise I would want a shared prayer life such as that you describe. (We do incorporate Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours when we are together.)

You certainly have inspired me. If things don’t work out with the guy I am seeing, I am going to start eyeing the guys at daily Mass and adoration chapels!

P.S. I will say that he did not start out that way. But he was devout, just needed that extra push. I think it would be great to find someone already at your same level of devotion - and that is what you should aim for - but it might be possible to help someone along if they are ready for it but are maybe just not as organized yet in their prayer life. My brother was not particularly devout when he met his now-wife, but he was ripe for growth in God and now is the type of spiritual leader the head of a household should be.

I believe that if you pray together, each go to confession on a regular basis and attend Mass together, your marriage will be on good solid ground for the long haul.

If you don’t do these things, little problems will become big problems and only God knows where the big problems will lead.

We have started saying the Divine Mercy at night, and have both started with Total Consecration to Mary yesterday, it will take us till January first to finish it.

Praying with my husband is one of the things I look forward to every day, in our busy days.
