Do you Prefer the EF or OF of the Mass?

I enjoy the quiet stillness and chant of Latin Mass, and the Liturgical participation in the vernacular of the Ordinary form.

Why, one Mass allows for contemplative prayer in its stillness.
The other Mass allows for communal worship in the voice and song of the congregation.

Visiting priests have sometimes celebrated the OF Mass in Latin as we could all follow in our hymnbooks instead of only a few understanding the language the priest speaks. Sometimes they have used English as most people understand at least some if not all but it really depends upon which languages the priest speaks. If there are visiting priest/s together with parish priest celebrating, then they might pray some parts in differents languages.

The pope celebrated the OF in Latin when he visited my country. I didn’t expect him to learn our language just for one Mass. 😁

When I went to Rome I could easily follow along in my hymnbook reading the Latin while the priest prayed in Italian.

I just like getting together at Aquila’s house and having wine with a few friends while Paul talks about that carpenter’s boy from Galilee.

OF because it’s generally done in my heart language (American English), and I love singing hymns and Mass parts.

To me, understanding is of paramount importance. Following a translation misses too many subtle meanings.

Finally, I fall asleep if things are too quiet.

I prefer the Traditional Latin Mass, though I cannot attend it.

I prefer the EF because it is reverential and contemplative. I like the quietness, the hushed atmosphere, the kneeling for Communion, and the traditional music. I like the connection I feel with my ancestors and Saints that I’ve never met that attended or said that form of the Mass, Padre Pio for example.

The first EF Mass I ever attended, I “got it” for the first time, the sacrificial offering aspect of the Mass and the awesomeness of God. It helped me understand the priest’s role as offering Mass on our behalf to God. It’s hard to put into words. But it gave me food for thought for days after.

It is very far and recently when we got a new bishop he moved it away even further towards the outskirts of the diocese. My spouse prefers the OF, so we attend a local parish.

I thought of one more reason I like it - the unhurried pace.
