Lately I’ve found myself looking for divine music from other traditions than my own, reading translations of old hymns in several languages and comparing their worshipful musical traditions.
And no, I don’t mean soppy modern music. More classical and folklore.
It has expanded my appreciation of the range of devotion, and found some true gems.
Are there more musical explorers out there?

(Not posted in Liturgy, bc I’m not trying to comment or denegate mass or other devotions, feel free to move the topic if needed)

Anonymous 4 is a female acapella quartet that sings medieval church music.
Check them out on YouTube

Here’s something beautiful, from St. Hildegard of Bingen (12th century) performed by Gothic Voices with Emma Kirkby

Thank you both, very sublime and enjoyable.

This is the first segment of the folkmusic Requiem I’m listening to in my car. It’s official enough that it’s being offered on occasion in our churches. It moves me because it fuses ’our’ music with the liturgical format, and takes the concept with new (but solemn and theologically acceptable) lyrics.
