Do you stay for prayer after Mass?

I always say the Prayer to St. Michael after Mass (a group of us says it together after daily Mass and I say it silently for myself after Sunday Mass) and as I am genuflecting to leave, I also pause to express my special thanks to Jesus. Sometimes I linger longer for personal prayer, too.

Scott Hahn once said that if people understood at least 20% of what is going on the mass they would have shared with everyone what’s really going on there. I wish that people were at least sometimes talking about that 🙂
like how?

i sometimes tell people who i think would appreciate something cool, that some say that as soon as the father opens with the sign of the cross, the heavens open up above. during the consecration, heaven lowers down to the altar and all the angels and saints gather around. some actually see these things happening. some have seen an angel bowing before the altar. then there’s the light of God…

i wish people would know not to clap after the closing hymn. i wish people would be quiet to let others pray, especially if the parish doesn’t have a separate chapel. i wish people would wait for the priest to exit before they leave the pews. i wish people would beat their chest when they’re supposed to. i wish people would bow when they’re supposed to. i wish i can accept and get over these things quickly…

I think if there’s noise in the church after Mass, those who want to pray should suck it up and pray anyway.

I keep remembering people like Saint Maximillian Kolbe praying in Auschwitz. I KNOW it wasn’t quiet there.

Or mothers who pray while their large family of children run about the house and play. I KNOW it’s not quiet there!

Or people who pray while they’re working on an assembly line. Not quiet there!

Or kids who pray in a college dorm room. NEVER quiet there.

To me, prayer is an interior quiet that shouldn’t depend on an exterior quiet. An exterior quiet is a blessing and when I get it, I enjoy it. But I’m trying not to need it.

We have an adoration chapel at our church that is open 24/7. If you come during the day, the noise of the schoolchildren playing on the playground can be heard. It’s great! Yes, I like it when the chapel is quiet, but again, the quiet should be in me, not the outside.

I do most every time during daily Mass, but on Sundays I’ve got people plowing over me after Mass to get out of the pew:mad: . That irritates me. But sometimes I just kneel and pray anyway.🙂 I ususally just say a prayer that the Lord stays with me throughout my day and that I am able to serve him in all that I do that day and everyday.

remember, everyone is at a different spiritual level. chances are we were all like them at one point. offer it up to God. always expect it and just step aside until the people who want to leave have left, with charity and a smile 😃

today i tried, but i couldn’t stand it, so i didn’t think God would kill me if i prayed outside. it was actually nicer too. Mary was watching over me with her huge garden of flowers and the midday sun shined on me. it was quiet and peaceful, i was alone, and i could hear the running water from the Our Lady of Lourdes fountain.

great points! it can make your prayer even more stronger if you can deal with it. if i must i must, but if not then i can find peace elsewhere.

i love the sound of babies and kids, even during mass. it makes me smile, and i feel sorry for those who cringe or give judgmental stares…

one cool thing i got over was dealing with cantors that aren’t exactly the best singers. being really off key, not following the beats, not following the words, voice cracking, etc. can make me cringe like nothing else. after prayering about it, i realized that they are just trying. they are singing to God, like the angels do. so when i hear a voice that makes me cringe, i imagine their soul singing to God like an angel in heaven, and it makes me feel a lot better and i can live with it. :heaven:
