As I look around i often wonder if people really know why they do the things they do.what do you say to that?Maybe Im the only one who does not know what he’s doing. But of course this makes me sound like a nut.Somebody once said I was ignorant but i don’t remember anybody calling me a nut.

Much of our behavior is governed by the unconscious mind. So, I doubt that many people really know why they behave as they do.

A lot of people do things out of habit, much of it without thought.

thanks.I tend to agree.they did a study on Hitler and they said many of his actions were in reality a response to feelings he had in childhood. If he raged about something in part he was raging against something he was mad about in childhood but never expressed it.

Also if you ask some one why they did something you can’t always trust that the explanation that they give is an accurate description of the causes and motivations that lead to the action. People may rationalize an explanation without realizing that they are rationalizing after a decision has been made (which is another instance of a person doing something without really knowing why).

“Thoughtless action” has it’s place though. We don’t always have the luxury of being able to devoting most of our attention to making a decision; they are time constraints and other demands for our attention.

Just as the person who said you were ignorant, I am also right there with you!

Recognize that accepting ignorance is the BEST step to opening the mind for education!
Knowing not what one does is a universal principle applicable to every being except God, which is why we should be patient by forgiving offenses.

What is the next BEST step? Determine what you want to learn and follow the best.
If we are speaking Philosophically: Resolve to learn How to Always be Patient, Kind, and Motivated by God with your heart, mind, strength, and soul, with Jesus as your Greatest Role Model and Catholicism as your Manual!
