Do you think that God allows "coincidences" so that He can remain anonymous?

In the sense that there is an extremely fine line between God’s intervention and a mere coincidence. It’s actually quite rare, in relative terms, to have a miracle so large that it is undeniable that God was behind it to happen. Most of the “miracles” tend to be quite subtle.

Do you think God allows such, so that in the grand scheme of things, everything ultimately boils down to faith in God?

Thank you,

Yes, even those miracles that are unsubtle seem to allow some room for hard core skeptics to explain them by mundane causes. Remember, Christ performed miracles in front of people and many of them did not believe.

I am sure that miracles of a grand scale do not occur for the reason that you stated.

I see His hand at work in many small things, suggesting the right way, guiding and saving us from what He can without conflicting our choices.

This post reminds me of a minor event some years ago. I was involved as one of the “leaders” of a youth group in a church, although most of the kids were not from the church.

One Friday night a party was organised for them at a garage owned by one of the other “leaders” (probably flooded right now as it is in Fox Street, Albioni…).

The next morning one of the girls mothers rang me to say her daughter had lost one of her rings at the party, and could I help her find it, as it supposedly had sentimental value. So I picked the girl up and took her to the workshop.

We didn’t need to go inside as she said she lost it outside. So we went onto the footpath, and looked around, but to no avail. Now she said it flew off her finger when she was shaking her hands, and thought if she tried doing the same thing again, maybe it would fly in a similar direction.

I thought it was a good way to lost both rings myself, as there was a patch of very long grass right next to where we were standing. If the second ring went in there, there was no way she’d get it back. But she insisted.

So she loosened the ring and shook her hands. But as she did so, I had this strange sense of time standing still for a split second, as though God was going to pull a swifty. I can’t explain it, but it was there.

Anyway she said the ring flew across the road somewhere, so we crossed over and looked on the dirt where people parked their cars.

Suddenly she saw the ring she’d just shaken off. But as she bent down to pick it up, I saw the ring she’s lost the night before no more than six inches away. So she got them both back.

When I took her back to her mother, I had a brief chance to “witness” to her. I don’t know if it made any difference, but I still remember the odd sensation of time standing still.

The “co-incidence” of both rings landing within 6 inches of each other was very remote.

I think God had a hand in it. But to all extents and purposes it was a coincidence.

I remember the animated cartoon “futurama” had an episode where one of the charactors met “god” where it kind of got philosophical and said something along the lines of

“If you do things right, it will be like you done nothing at all”

Not the exact quotes, but you get the idea, and i actually think it has a ring of truth, do you agree ?

God Bless you

Yes, very nice! 👍

I firmly believe in this. Things like this have happened to me a number of times. Here is one example. It had been years since I had been to confession. It was a penance service. I was next in line to go to confession. I was standing right near the choir. I could tell that the person currently going to confession was finishing up. I was thinking to myself, “I am so nervous”, “I am scared”,“I am afraid”, right then the choir started singing …“Be Not Afraid”…
