Do you think you are smarter because of Google and a smart phone?

I find I know more because of the access to Google and my phone.

How about you ?

Are you saying that “knowing more” is the same as being “smarter”? I know more because of Google, yes – in a few seconds I can get information from the internet that was simply unavailable previously. But I’m not smarter. My IQ is no higher today than it was pre-internet, as far as I can tell.

Yeah, agree. The correlation between internet savvy and smarts is debatable.

I have access to more facts.

But I no longer remember phone numbers
My spelling is worse
Mental math takes longer

I don’t use a Smart phone, because I don’t even have one.

I use laptops, instead. Even so, I wouldn’t say that I’m any smarter for it, at all.

That has been my observation of people with Smart phones as well. I likewise do not own a Smart phone, and still do arithmetic in my head, usually faster than people doing it on a on phone.

Of course my profession is rather math intensive.

I’m smarter about how to use smart phones and google…lol

Do you feel smarter after looking things up on Google and your smartphone? Or are you merely better informed?

I look up things that are important to me. I am more knowledgeable about the subjects I research as a result just as I would be if I went to the local library. But smarter? That would require an IQ test to compare with my MENSA results.

No,l learn a lot of silly things that I loose interest in soon after that are quite irrelevant to my life.I have left off reading books which makes me cross,my concentration on tasks at hand has become kind of blasé.
Being on the Internet in general makes me feel lathargic-I think I’m allergic to it

🧐
Talking with like minded people here,on the other hand has helped increase my love of our catholic faith,so I’m very grateful I googled Catholic Answers Forum some years ago.
God bless 🙂

Not smarter, it is good in the sense of being able to access info very fast, but I think due to Google / smartphone capability we are exposed to much more misleading info now also. For every 1 good resource there must be 10 which are shady shady
