Do you wear the brown scapular?
I sure do 👍. I use a tiny one with an Immaculate Conception (a.k.a. Miraculous) Medal on it.

They tend not to last very long, so I bought a whole bunch of them (I got them from a Pauline Books and Media in Manila, where they cost less than a quarter per Scapular). Because they break so easily, I used to try wearing the medal version of it, but I didn’t like it, so I switched back.

I did an idiotic thing: I tied all the Scapulars I had together, and now they seem to be permanently tangled. I’m just going to get a friend to buy some and send them to me so I can fix this. I used to always carry a spare with me just in case the one I’m using breaks (I could go through several every year because these aren’t very durable), but since they got all tangled, I haven’t been able to do that.

Anyway, I wear mine all the time, in the shower (though I have to make a slipknot on it so it doesn’t come off when I change clothes) and at the beach.

It’s funny that you ask this now. I was just reading a book on Fatima by Francis Johnston and he tells us about the importance of the Scapular, that it’s right up there with the Rosary.

If you plan to start using one, don’t forget to get yourself properly invested by a priest.

Think there might be a relationship here?

The Rose Scapular site is where I buy scapulars. Find them at rosescapular.com/scaporder.htm

They are the best:thumbsup:
I wholeheartedly agree with rose scapular company. I have the same Brown Scapular for 3 years and it still looks brand new.

I bought six of them in the beginning and have given most of them away. They last a long time. Do not bother with ones that cost a quarter. Mine costs $6 and is well worth it. Also they are pure wool.

Pax carmeli,

NB. The Brown Scapular of OLMC works hand in hand with the Rosary. St. Padre Pio said the scapular was his shield and the rosary was the weapon against the devil. After all, we are the Church Militant, engaged in spiritual warfare, as St. Paul tells us.

All who pray the rosary should be enrolled in the confraternity of the Brown Scapular OLMC. Any priest can bless your first wool scapular and the blessing carries over to all future scapulars. It is really easy. Just do it!

It is not superstition. The Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is Our Lady’s dog tags, identifying us as being in Mary’s Army. Our Lady is a warrior. She will crush the devil in the end.

Look to Mary as our model for all, religious and laity.

And also, most I’ve seen in Catholic Bookstores (along with the one sent to me free by the Society of the Little Flower) have a plastic envelope type of thing surrounding each cloth side. Do I cut that off to wear it? (I tried it without taking the plastic off and the corners kept jabbing me alot).

Yes I wear the brown scapular. I have worn one since I was little. When I went to a church summer camp they did the ceremony for all the children who hadn’t yet been enrolled. I love wearing my scapular, when I need a new one I contact one of the priests that my family have come to know over the years and they’re always happy to supply us with new ones. 🙂

Some scapulars are more robust than others, it’s amazing the variety of materials they can be made from.

I have recently taken to wearing the medal of the Holy Face as well.

Yes, its brilliant.
If you have a problem with the woolen version, there is a scapular medal which is also approved.
Try it!

I wear the five-fold, which includes the brown (as well as the red, white, blue, and black). 🙂

Yes, I do (for 15 years now) ; as a Secular Order carmelite, we wear it as part of our ‘Habit’.

My wife does and she is a member of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCDS). I have started wearing the Black scapular of St. Benedict.

Yes - I have for over 45 years. Those who consider it an amulet or talisman have been tainted by the modern spirit that is pervasive in the Church today. The brown scapular is a garment that testifies to a special devotion to Our Lady that we commit to, promising to regularly pray the rosary, receive the sacraments, and amend our daily lives to the honor of Our Lady and her son, Our Lord and Savior. In return, Our Lady promises to protect us from dying without sanctifying grace.

You must be enrolled in the scapular and at that time, one is blessed and placed on you by the priest. When that one wears out, you can buy a new one and begin to wear it without actually blessing the new scapular since the wearer is actualy the one who is blessed and the scapular (or garment) becomes blessed by the act of wearing it. The same principle goes for a priest’s vestments.

If you want to be enrolled in the brown scapular, you will probably have to find a Traditional Church or a priest who regularly says Mass in the Extraordinary Rite and has access to the Rituale. I asked a priest at our local diocesan church to enrol my daughter in the scapular a couple of years ago and he looked at me like I had feet growing out the top of my head.

THE SONG OF SOLOMON; 6:10

Who is she that cometh forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in array?

I ***********************

I’m enrolled in the scapular. I wear it at all times except that I have to remove mine just before showering to prevent premature disintegration (of the scapular - not of me).

At this point I always kiss my scapular and tell the Blessed Mother I’m still wearing it in my heart. As soon as I’m dry I put it back on after kissing it saying, “I’m yours Holy Virgin, please save me.”

I only use the brown wool scapular - even though there seem to be more and more cheap plastic covered ones being sold in the popular catholic tourist venues here.

It used to always leave me with a pretty serious rash (wool can do that to me). Rather than give it up, I simply take some narrow brown border material and sew a slim border around the edge of the scapular each time I need to wear a new one. The rash is still there…but it’s more of a smaller square controllable one now … the same size as the woolen part of the scapular.
