I joined the Church in February of this year. While I believe in the doctrine, I have a heck of a time with taking direction from some of the higher ups in the church. The local priests and the bishop out here are great. It’s when I start looking further up the chain of command that I begin lately wondering what the heck?

Maybe it’s the fact that I’m a prosecutor, but when somebody is convicted at trial, the “presumption of innocence is gone.” Business people, sports folks, etc. have had their careers smacked around at times just based on arrests… yet, we find ourselves with situations such as that French clergyman. Basically telling him to do what he things is best was the way that area got into the mess it found itself.

Perhaps it is time to adopt the ideology of Sun-Tzu… kill 1 teach a 100. Defrock the folks who have been convicted and get it over with. Doing anything else frankly makes the Church look silly.

I guess I’m just wondering about suggestions about when you believe in the doctrine, but also believe that the leaders grabbed the “idiot ball” of organization management and ran it into the end-zone. It’s sort of like working for a boss that you have no confidence in.

This disscussion will not accomplish anything in regard to the matter.

What “direction” are they giving you personally, other than passing along the teachings of Jesus Christ and telling you to follow those?

I guess I just cringe when I see some of the stuff that is coming out and the apathetic response back. Finding it very hard to buy into recognizing the Pope et al when they can’t even get purging the convicted right. Highly doubt that Jesus would have tolerated some of this stuff.

I know too that claims can be B.S… As a prosecutor, I have seen the legitimate and B.S. claims of sexual abuse come through the office. To see a non-response to a conviction just really, really bothers me. That, and the fact that word choices in explaining some of this stuff seem rather… problematic, with the statements having to be “explained” later. Reminds me of a criminal defense attorney telling the jury what his client “really” meant when he told the store clerk that he was going to blow his ****'ing head off if the clerk didn’t give him the money.

I am thinking that I’ll probably just stick with the issues of the diocese out here, and ignore the vast majority of stuff that comes out of Rome for a while. If there’s something significant, I’m sure the priest will let us know. Sure does make it difficult to be Catholic at times though.

it’s easier to be Catholic when you focus on Jesus Christ instead of on the things of this world. You’ll be leaving this world soon enough and it won’t matter anymore. Jesus will however continue to matter.
