documentary hypothesis....

What does the Church (or Catholic scholars) say on the Documentary Hypothesis: That 4 different sources composed the Pentateuch? Or that a so-called “Deuteronomic Historian” is responsible from the content from Deuteronomy - 2 Kings (excluding Ruth)? I’m taking an Old Testament class at a Protestant school and I’m pretty confused about how this theory would fit in with my faith. Thanks!

I don’t know that the Church has made any official statements one way or the other about how the Pentateuch was composed but it appears that this theory is acceptable. Here’s a link to the “Introduction to the Pentateuch” found in the New American Bible at the U.S. Bishop’s website:
