I saw this quoted on another thread:

“No one, even if he pour out his blood for the Name of Christ, can be saved, unless he remain within the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church. -Ecumenical Council of Florence (infallible)”

Not addressing the ecumenicity of the Council of Florence, can somebody provide documentation that the Catholic Church has pronounced this quotation from this Council, or all that proceeded from this Council, as INFALLIBLE.

Sucha cuncil’s infallibility was not within my understanding of where and when infallibility was to be found in the Church.

Thank you.

Charis kai eirene.

According to Vatican II, Lumen Gentium, the bishops gathered together in a council, and united with the Pope, are infallible when they make a pronouncement on faith or morals. That would seem to apply here. Joe

The Canons of a Council are infallible teachings of the Church when they are ratified by the Pope. There are instances where Councils have made pronouncements and all but two or three canons were ratified by the Pope.

This is a very good and thorough exposition of the Council of Florence. I enjoyed reading it, will re-read it several times, and thank you for posting it!

I’m still looking for declaration of infallibility, however.
As I was posting by response above, apparently 2 others were posting more to address what I was asking for. Okey dokey - thanks to all!

This partial quote is found in Denzinger #714. You need to read the whole paragraph to get the meaning.
