The man made no disparaging comments about the people involved in these acts. He merely said “It is a demonic spirit that causes a woman to want to live with another woman” and “It is a demonic spirit that causes a man to be attracted to another man.” We know from CCC 2357 that homosexual acts are sins of “grave depravity.” Therefore an inclination to commit such acts is a temptation to sin, and all temptations come from the Son of Perdition. What’s so objectionable about that? In fact, I wish more of our Catholic bishops would have the courage to say something like that in this day and age.

I agree, sadly the catholic bishops remain mostly silent on the issues we face today, like this one. They don’t have the fullness of truth, but atleast there are Christians out there promoting truth they have and denouncing sinful behavior. Hopefully one day soon our catholic bishops will rise up and begin speaking against these atrocities.

The same paragraph says:

Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained.

Not quite endorsing the demonic spirit argument.

The next paragraph says:

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

Again, far from saying someone is under the influence of a demonic spirit.

The way I read it, I think that people were more so offended at the fact that it sounded like these people were personally possessed by demonic spirits. Something which strikes me about much of the understanding on the devout Catholic view on homosexuality is that when the CCC says “They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity”, people seem to interpret this as tolerate them by nor physically punching (but verbally punching them is fine).

It very clearly says ‘accepted’, not ‘tolerated’. While I agree that homosexual persons ought to abstain from sexual relations, I think that unfortunately we Catholics tend to use language which is very open to interpretation (and usually interpreted in a different way than what we actually mean). I think we need to address the outer world in a way that they understand our view, which isn’t compromised, by using more direct language.

The preacher wasnt talking about specific people being possessed but instead that generally the evil of homosexulity come from the devil, and for that he should be commended.

The world, the flesh, and the devil are the tempters to sin.

If he was a Protestant, this is where we can properly as Catholics come together in good ecuminism.

Whenever any of us is tempted to sin it is by the influence of a demonic spirit.

Well, we get enough guff in the media. It’s nice to have someone else take the heat once in a while.

We should always be willing to take the heat. Whether that be from the media, world leaders, other religions etc. it doesn’t matter. Truth is truth, and the Catholic Church has the truth in its fullness. As the world hated Christ, and persecuted Christ, so will it hate and persecute us. Frankly at this point, if we aren’t taking heat for our stances, in this day and age, then something is wrong. Clearly we aren’t holding to those stances and promoting theM enough.

If so, the Church has to get a whole lot better at managing its media presence. To wag fingers, stomp feet, say, “Because we said so!” and “You don’t agree because you don’t understand” is pretty much why we have CAF threads abounding about why young people don’t go to church.

This is true. There does need to be more clear and concise language when defending the truths of the church. Ambiguous language has been a problem in the church for some time now, save a few prelates with a voice loud enough to be heard. Used to, the church called a spade a spade and defended why they did so. Now it seems everyone is afraid of offending anyone.

I am wondering what the topic of homosexuality has to do with celebrating the accomplishments of Martin Luther King?
