Does a Mormon baptism invalidate a prior Catholic baptism?

I have a good friend that recently was baptized a Mormon a few weeks ago. He was born and baptized a Catholic as an infant. He now believes that has made a big mistake. Is his Catholic baptism still valid since the church doesn’t recognize Mormon baptisms? Or does he have to be re-baptized?

Baptism is permanent - there is nothing one can do to invalidate a valid baptism. Therefore, your friend does not need to be - indeed cannot be - re-baptized.

Incorporated into Christ by Baptism, the person baptized is configured to Christ. Baptism seals the Christian with the indelible spiritual mark (character) of his belonging to Christ. No sin can erase this mark, even if sin prevents Baptism from bearing the fruits of salvation. Given once for all, Baptism cannot be repeated. (Catechism, 1272).

I recommend that your friend go to confession and then put this issue behind him.
