Does a sacramental Catholic wedding have to be a mass?

Just went to a wedding where I thought the groom’s annulment had come through and that he had come into full communion with the Church. However, although the priest did officiate, there was no mass. Does this mean the wedding was not blessed by the Church as a sacrament?

All marriages between two baptized persons (assuming they are free to marry) are sacramental. It is the valid exchange of vows that creates the sacramental bond of marriage, not the Mass.

There are several reasons why a Catholic wedding might not include a Mass. The most common is that the Catholic party is marrying a nonCatholic individual. Given that one spouse and probably half in attendance won’t be able to receive communion a Mass is not recommended in such situations.
