I have a question as it pertains to those who mortally sin in relation to addiction but are actively trying to overcome said addiction. (Such as in the case of pornography). If they died would they have died in mortal sin and therefore sent to hell. Or do you believe that the culpability of there sins would be lessened possibly due to it being an addiction or they might have confession by desire?

Disclaimer: I understand noone knows the fate of souls and God’s mercy is great. But this is more of an opinion question.

Addiction can lessen culpability.

Speak to your pastor about any personal matters related to sin and addictions.

I understand and have talked and confessed to my pastor about my addiction. This isn’t about personal advice for me I was just trying to pose a question.

Aren’t all of our sinful ways rooted in one form of addiction or another?
