Hi! I could tell you were a guinea pig person when I saw your username contained “Wheek”!

I used to have a whole bunch of GPs. I love them, but found they required a lot of medical care (More than other pets I’ve had). I was fortunate to have an exotics vet nearby who could treat them, and a good mailing list in those pre-Internet days where I could learn about proper care because most of the care books sold in USA are downright awful. But they still didn’t last longer than 5 years each, and when I changed careers and got busy it was easier to have more durable pets, so now I have a bunch of cats. Maybe some day when I have more time and less cats I can have GPs again.

I have several now,one of the mama’s is due very soon.
When I was young i had 50 at one stage ,I supplied one of the local pet shops but kept my favourites

My brother and I raised cavies back in the 1970s. We kept a few hamsters too, but the guinea pigs really thrived. Our dad built a large rabbit hutch for them, and we had smaller cages to bring them inside when the weather was bad.

Later, moving up the food chain, we also kept ferrets, very playful little critters.
