I liked it imensly and plan on re-reading it. Still, I think there is more to it than meets the eye. Perhaps it’s just me. I have heard it is a good primer for the Philokalia, but this latter is a book one should not try to “tackle” without spiritual direction.
Oh, I don’t know, I think it can be tackled without it by some. It’s a very useful book, I think there’s far more potential harm in not having it than any concern over confusion with having it. 🙂

It is the Holy Spirit who literaly prays without ceasing. So it is not that the human mind chooses to pray without ceasing for that is impossible for man but the Holy Spirit whom we have chosen to recieve that God has chosen to give us and now lives in us prays without ceasing.

I do. It’s quite easy actually. You just make your actions throughout your day into a prayer. That and you talk to God throughout the day. 🙂

Hello!🙂
Does any one really pray without ceasing? How do you do it? I know we are told to, but I don’t know how. I enjoy Daily Mass, the Rosary, etc. should I just keep with my more formal prayers? I often repeat short prayers, like the Miraculous Medal, “Oh, Mary, concieved without sin, pray for those who have recourse to thee.” I am sure whole hours go by without my prayer, like at the Grocery Store, etc. I would be very grateful if some one could explain how Prayer without Ceasing is done.

I think you can pray with your actions too =). In Mass we pray with our hands, our knees, our eyes. At the grocery store you can pray with your heart, your hands. It can be thanking God that the store has delicious fruits today or that your wallet has money to buy food today. You can pray while showering, while brushing your teeth, while doing the dishes by sharing those moments with God. It’s a relationship, you can pray anytime and all the time =). You can even pray, in my understand, when you are not thinking about God. Say you are going to ski down a big slope and you know during that ski you will be mainly thinking about the sport itself. Before you take that first hop, invite God to join you on your trip down. Ski. Then talk to God about the experience. Ask God how you did and what He thought of the situation. Some food for thought.

I attempt to, I do not yet succeed, by the grace of God I may one day. Here is my theory.

anything you do can be a prayer, live your life as a prayer, do things right. For instance, when you see somebody in need, treating them as God would treat them is a prayer, say for instance you enjoy to go workout, workout to the best of your ability and do it to the Glory of God!

Doing anything to the glory of God is a prayer, I now drink my coffee in Glory to God for he is almighty, his creation is so beautiful.

God bless you

Hi Leeroy,
pick up a copy of “Tales of a Russian Pilgrim” by anonymous author. It’s helpful. And I’m pretty sure there have been saints that have been able to pray without ceasing. I try to but it’s difficult. Try repeating “Son of David have mercy on me, that I am a sinner”, helpful when one is really stressed out.
