I’m 16 years old and I cannot stand music at Mass. It’s boring.
Contemporary “Christian” praise & worship music is nothing more than secular songs with biblical lyrics. I can’t stand them. Spoon feeding feel-goody music to us youth is something I despise. Are we that stupid/are our attention spans so bad that the Mass needs to be watered down to our level?
I get made fun of for not wanting to attend Steubenville, NCYC, etc, but can you blame me? My parish is in charge of organizing the diocesan youth conference and I refuse to take part in any of it. Initially, I suggested that the conference could be centered around the Tridentine Mass, since none of my peers even know what that means and it was part of our faith for 1,900 years. I was laughed at and told that a bunch of Latin chanting and kneeling is “too boring for today’s teens”.
I don’t care much for OCP hymns either. Lots of them have heretical lyrics (Sing a New Church Into Being? Really?) and are just as shallow as the CCM I described earlier.
Bring back pre-Vatican II music and Gregorian Chant. I can’t tell you the last time I heard any Ave Maria’s, Salve Regina’s, Ave Verum Corpus, etc at Mass.
