In the context of music at our Church, all songs found in the “Glory and Praise” book, or the Seasonal Missalette is considered traditional. The Glory and Praise book we use is the 4th printing in 2001.
I love contemporary music at mass. I play guitar at church and I much prefer playing contemporary music, especially when written by guitar players like Matt Maher, Chris Tomlin, Steve Angrisano, etc. I don’t like playing the old “pianoey” stuff.
With many parishes and many Saturday/Sunday Mass times each week, I’m blessed to have a huge range, from ultra traditional music, to Gospel-inspired music (at the predominantly African-American church), to Hispanic music, to banal 60s-70s hymns, to lovely and fresh contemporary (with guitar, bongos, drums, flute). It is nice to have a choice, and at various times I like each one!
