Theophobia, i would describe as an extreme or irrational fear of God’s wrath or even of his existence.

I don’t but I have known some who do have an irrational fear of religion. I have felt that they fear entertaining dangerous thoughts, dangerous to the stability of their worldy illusions. A fear of loss of individuality when in fact by embracing God we gain and become co creators. Catechism 307.

The fear of the wrath of God is a wise one but He is a loving God. No cell in my body need fear me unless it rebels and becomes cancerous.

Sometimes it can be a symptom of severe mental illness.

It can be a natural result of a “close encounter” with God.

Then I said, “Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.”

(Isaiah 6:5)

Though this is rare, and one may live her entire life without such an experience.

I might have when I was a teenager, but that depends on how extreme the fear needs to be. When combined with some of Protestantism’s nebulous concepts, potential to lose salvation can be rather frightening, and that affected me for a few years. I sort of left that as I grew older and moved to Calvinism, and it didn’t come back when I converted to Catholicism.
