Greetings, fellow brothers and sister in the Faith. Today, I want to ask you if any of you happen to know good Catholic Bible eBook with commentary that I can download? To my embarrassment, I haven’t been doing much scripture reading lately, and I would like to learn more. It would also be very useful if it contained commentaries so that I can grasp God’s message fully.

Thank you, and any help is appreciated. God bless!

Ignatius Press has a very good Bible translation with new testament commentary. They are working on an old testament commentary at the moment which will hopefully be out in a few years.

They also have a complete translation of the bible available without extensive commentary.

It’s not an e-book but look at e-sword. Install on your computer and you can study away.

I find it very useful for bible study. many Bible and commentaries, most of them free.

I know that bible is sometimes hard to understand, but it is only if the translation is not good.

Personally I like the Jerusalem Bible that Mother Angelica uses. And for now I use the Latin Vulgate English Bible, approved by the holy see. Dhuay Rheims

When the translation is simple and understandable, you do not need commentary. Try it;)

May the merciful Jesus Bless you

I admit I made a mistake…

I’m new to this whole catholic bible.

I thought all bibles are the same…

Turns out, we do have catholic bibles, glad to know. I think it’s the safest.

I just knew about the Latin Vulgate bible and Douay Rheims just some months ago. It gives many lights.

Here I recommend the catholic bibles:

Douay Rheims Bible: drbo.org/
New Jerusalem Bible: catholic.org/bible/
New American Bible: vatican.va/archive/ENG0839/_INDEX.HTM

You can download this bible using this free program:

Actually the bible that I use from the site sacredbible.org/
is really translated by this guy named Ron, it isn’t approved by the holy see, but I liked it a lot.

It says a new translation of the Latin Vulgate, using the Douay Rheims as a guide. He named it Catholic Public Domain Version.

I found it when I was looking for a free catholic bible in pdf form to download. And is really satisfied. I read the psalms every day, as a breviary.

That depends on each person though.

I personally recommend the Douay Rheims bible (drbo.org/). It is with excellent commentaries. Read it every day. It will help your faith.

Reading the scriptures has become a joy to me now

Sorry guys for the confusion

Yes, the ‘Ignatius Catholic Study Bible - New Testament’ is excellent and is available in e-book, I have a copy on my kindle. 👍

this is what I have on my kindle and it works very well, easy to search
be careful about any free version of any bible, esp. the DR-C (same problem with KJV) as they can be impossible to search by book, chapter and verse and are laden with typos and errors and missing passages.

The Douay-Rheims Challoner Bible
‘In the beginning God created heaven, and earth. And the earth was void and empty, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the spirit of God moved over the waters. And God said: Be light made. And light was made. And God saw the light that it was good; and he divided the light from the darkness. And he called the light Day, and the darkness Night; and there was evening and morning one day. And God said: Let there be a firmament made amidst the waters: and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made a firmament, and divided the waters that were under the firmament, from those that were above the firmament, and it was so. And God called the firmament, Heaven; and the evening and morning were the second day. God also said: Let the waters that are under the heaven, be gathered together into one place: and let the dry land appear. And it was so done. And God called the dry land, Earth; and the gathering together of the waters, he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.’
