Hello Ladies and Gents!

I lead a ministry for Catholics Returning Home and I thought this was a good idea. Some of the folks who have been away for a while asked if there was guide or handout I could get that would help them get re-aquinted with the proper postures during Liturgy. If any one knows of any guide drop me a post and or line. Thanks

Peace,

Our Sunday Visitor has one out there I think.
Google 'em.

Its not exactly the same thing, but when asked by a Hindu woman a few years back on what to do at a Catholic funeral, I suggested that she just follow the lead of the people around her.

Considering the fact that postures vary from city to city and parish to parish, its probably the best advice for anyone.

Also, if they can, tell them to try and sit behind young children, and the mom will probably help instruct the kids, and they can also follow along with that…

it is called the General Instructions of the Roman Missal or GIRM for short. It covers a lot more than that.

You will also find that it doesn’t say a whole lot, and you can find most of it in a missal in the pews, usually in bold print to the side of the text.

Much has been made over the issue of holding hands during the Our Father. It is not in the GIRM.

Neither is the posture of having your hands folded together; whether fingers parallel and pointing towards the ceiling, or crossed over and intertwined.

The former catches all sorts of grief from conservatives; the latter is never discussed.

And Archbishop Chaput of Denver said it best; those who want to hold hands should, and should not be criticised, and those who do not want to should not have to, and not be criticised.

The GIRM should be available in any Catholic bookstore, or they should be able to get it for you. It is not particularly costly.

Wow you folks are fast thanks!

Yes I know about the GIRM and our missles are condensed versions. And yes Ive heard the debates re: holding hands. I think I found what I need. I found a few on various Church websites that are brief and a good starting point for a person comming back after many years.

Thanks All!

The US Bishops have a series of “bulletin articles” on their website about postures. I believe it was in the litugy section.
