I attend Perpetual Adoration in my contemporary parish every Sunday morning before the roosters crow, and I always bring two books with me: my 1962 Missal and Divine Intimacy (a devotional based on the cycle of readings according to the pre-concilliar rite). I wish a parish in our area would consider an EF Mass, but the priests are not interested right now.

i take my missal with me too to perpetual adoration. they have a prayer garden outside with the stations of the cross, so today i prayed the stations of the cross. i also read about what the Mass means. that was very helpful.
it is a treasure of information of prayers and saints and psalms.

i am not sure what vespers is though. or compline?

i have only been a Catholic since July, 2008 so this is all very new to me.

i think if i were marooned on a desert island, and i could only have one book with me, this would be it!! it would be between this and the Bible. i don’t know. maybe i should redo the question!! LOL!! 2 books, instead of 1.

Vespers is Evening prayer (~6pm) while Compline is Night prayer (immediately before bedtime).

As far as your missal being the only book you’d have with you on a desert island, I think you’re waaaay too high church for a convert :D;)😛 Your Protestant friends may think you’ve gone off the deep end! Heck, some of my (Catholic) family members think I’ve gone off the deep end for liking this traditional stuff. So, know you’re in good company.

thanks for explaining vespers and compline.

yes, i like tradition i have to admit. i grew up in the 50’s and 60’s and i just feel things were done right back then.

i am moving to a new community. i don’t know if there will be a tridentine mass offered, but if there is, i would like to attend one every now and then.

i would love to learn more latin too.

thanks for the encouragement. yes, i just converted in July, but i have always said i had Catholic DNA! LOL!

I purchased my 1962 Missal last fall when the FSSP took over a local church, All Saints, in Minneapolis, MN. I just love the TLM and the 1962 Missal. However, I have two questions. 1. Yesterday, 20 Feb., there was no ‘saint of the day’ and so I did not know where to look for the epistle, gospel, etc. Can someone help? 2. after each prayer, like the collect, they leave you hanging by not finishing the sentence. I.E. ‘Through…’ Does anyone know where I can find all of these ‘endings’?

Pax tecum
