I’m interested in what the PREFACE to the book of Mark says, when it was written, and I need to know whether it says it is the 2nd gospel written or not. If anyone has this particular bible, let me know. Thanks!
Thank you so much for that. I was having a discussion & I was explaining to someone that MARK was the oldest gospel, first one written, & a protestant lady w. a catholic bible is reading it verbatum telling me that mark was the second gospel, (I’m thinking, no, it was the first written, second in order) But this bible refers to it as the 2nd gospel, (If it was written in the 1950’s, surely someone saw the potential for hands to be raised with questions…lol. Thank you so much.In my 1950 edition of the Confraternity edition of the Bible, in the preface to St. Mark, it does declare this to be the second Gospel. It says it was written in Rome sometime before 60 AD and that he wrote it in Greek for the Gentile converts to Christianity.![]()
There was a period of time, not so long ago, when the priority of Mark was almost unquestioned, but that opinion has fallen more and more into disfavor, and the priority of Matthew is once again gaining acceptance.Thank you so much for that. i KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!!! MARK gets a bad rap because it’s considered by some to be too blunt, too vague, and has to quick a climax as far as leading up to the crucifixion. I like Luke & John personally, Matthew has a bit more detail than Mark, but as far as detail & the inclusion of more women in scripture, I tend to lean towards Luke & as far as the passion, I like John. John Ch. 20 has apologetics for confession, Also it explains why holy water is added to the wine at communion. I like the detail of John. So yes. I think people see the importance in the use of LANGUAGE I guess & are more careful, not for the sake of being PC, but more for the sake of accuracy. There was a period of time, not so long ago, when the priority of Mark was almost unquestioned, but that opinion has fallen more and more into disfavor, and the priority of Matthew is once again gaining acceptance.![]()
