Regardless, what is the point in telling someone that they are Catholic if they do not act like Catholics, do not believe in the teachings of the Catholic Church, and do not go to a Catholic church on Sunday?

As I understand it, Orthodox beliefs are similar to Catholic beliefs in the area of baptism, altho not so much in the area of what happens after death–I am afraid I do not understand the “toll-booth” system it seems that Orthodox believe.
Now, some people go to Heaven. Some people go to Hell. God is fully just, so no one ever ends up in a place which he or she does not deserve, which is why Catholics *speculate *ideas such as Limbo and the different circles of Hell. However, Christ did not reveal these things to us, so the Church does not *teach *them.
The OP is talking to young people in Canada, a place where information about Catholicism is easily available. Invincible ignorance would not avail them. So the point in his telling people that if they have been baptized that they are Catholic and should look into living as Catholics is to *save their souls from an eternity in Hell. *

1272 Incorporated into Christ by Baptism, the person baptized is configured to Christ. Baptism seals the Christian with the indelible spiritual mark (character) of his belonging to Christ. No sin can erase this mark, even if sin prevents Baptism from bearing the fruits of salvation. Given once for all, Baptism cannot be repeated.
1267 Baptism makes us members of the Body of Christ: “Therefore . . . we are members one of another.” Baptism incorporates us into the Church. GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES YOU DESCRIBE; THEY WOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH RCIA; PERSOANNLY CHOOSE TO ACCEPT AND LIVE THE cATHOLIC fAITH AND BE cONFIRMED IN THE CC.
Question2: When these young people start to ponder marriage in the next decade, would they be required to be married in the Catholic Church, as baptised Catholics? Even if they have not received the full introductory sacraments?
YES, IF they wish to be Catholic. If they choose not to be catholic; then they are in danger of loosing their souls; but eveyone is free to make there own FREEWILL choicem and are not to be pressured into doing so.

Terminology help… OK… so now all these people properly baptized are Catholics. How do we refer to them when they:
*]hate the Catholic Church/Religion?
*]Call themselves Catholics but mock or go against strong Catholic beliefs such as abortion?
The second really drives me nuts because I just want to tell people not to call themselves Catholic.

- Dissenting Catholics or liberally dissenting Catholics (to keep them separate from anti-V2 Catholics)

Still God is and MUST remain in charge.
What someone choses to call themselves in beyond our control. We can model Catholism for them and pray for them; let’s do just that:thumbsup:

- We call them “our brothers or sisters who do not fully understand what the Church teaches and whom we need to lovingly educate and pray for”.

I’m not trying to be rude but would rather have a description (and it could be a kind description) to be able to discern between them. If I spoke of my sister as Catholic, she would be very offended I do believe she would prefer xCatholic just because she does not want to be associated with the church. She is now a proud Methodist and I wouldn’t want to lead anyone to believe she practices the Catholic faith. I actually prefer the term lost Catholic. But especially to none Catholics I don’t want them to think that their beliefs are that of the Catholic faith. I have met people who think the Catholic Church support birth control because they know of Catholics on birth control.

They have a fully and RIGHTLY informed conscience that conforms in-total with Christ teachings as taught by the Catholic Church [Mt. 28:16-20]
And Unless they Live actively and fully what they they calim to be; not their private interprertation of it; BUT adhereing FULLY to ALL of the Traditions, Teachings, Doctrines and Dogma’s.
It BOTH logical and Biblical that any one who derserts Christ:
One God
Only One set of Faith believes
and only One Church; DO INDEED chhose Hell over salvation.
And indeed unless and until they repent and revert are “Lost Souls” [there chioce; not God’s; God’s opinion; n ot just mine.
John.10: 16 “And I have other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock, one shepherd”
Ps.127:1 “Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain”

But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed; its end is to be burned.
